there is around 100 words like Hager, Hiwet, Hazen, Desta etc that is found in both Tigrinya and Amharic with Ge'ez being the main component of the existence of those words in both languages so the word Mendefera is more likely a Geez name as Kobo is originally called "Angot Awraja" since the times of Axum Empire "Angot Awraja" spans Mehoni to Weldiya and was divided by Amharic and Tigrinya but both people have same culture and both call themselves "Rayans" today and are originally Habesha!

Mendefera is not Geez. It is Tigrigna word made up of two Tigrigna words መን (ማን) ደፈራ (ደፈራት). The folklore in Eritrea is that the area used to be dense jungle and people did not live there because they were afraid of the wild animals. Afterwards a family started living there and the people in the neighboring villages called the place መን ደፈራ? meaning "Who Dared (it)?" out of owe to the courage of the people who dared to live in the middle of a jungle.

Aradom ኣርዓዶም is also a Tigrigna word which means አስፈራቸው. It seems most villages in Kobo Woreda have Tigrigna names.

Mendefera is not Geez. It is Tigrigna word made up of two Tigrigna words መን (ማን) ደፈራ (ደፈራት). The folklore in Eritrea is that the area used to be dense jungle and people did not live there because they were afraid of the wild animals. So it is ማንደፈረ and is Amharic but really it should be Amharic "Mandefera "and "Mendefera" is Tigrinya

Rama-Kidane-Mihret is the name of the Monastery of Zobel Mountians and thus a village was named after it

If it was Amharic, the place would have been called ማንደፈራት not መንደፈራ which is Tigrigna. Btw, I am not denying that Tigrigna and Amharic have 1000s common words. But Mendera is a portmanteau which means a word made by blending two words. That is why it is easy to tell whether it is Amharic or Tigrigna.

If it was Amharic, the place would have been called ማንደፈራት not መንደፈራ which is Tigrigna. Btw, I am not denying that Tigrigna and Amharic have 1000s common words. But Mendera is a portmanteau which means a word made by blending two words. That is why it is easy to tell whether it is Amharic or Tigrigna.

"ማንደፈራት" the "ት" at the end makes me laugh cause it reminds me when Eritreans say "Hagerat" "Hizibitat"

anyways Mendefera or Mandefera is a Eritrean word and is not Amhara so in my opinion the word "Mandefrat" sounds messed up that is why locals chose "Mandefera" instead of "Mandeferat"

BTW it is common for people to take words they like for example Tigrayans and Eritreans started to say "Betam" which is from Amhara people. and the Amhara people take words from the north that they like
