PIA, on Sudan.

Post by Zmeselo » 09 Jul 2023, 11:03

Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki:
The current initiatives are political bazaars, in which we cannot/won't participate. What is happening in Sudan is an internal matter, and external interference will complicate matters further.

By Malik Agar Eyre | مالك عقار اير: @MalikAgarEyre

I met with His Excellency the Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki yesterday evening in the Eritrean capital, Asmara.

I thanked him for their reception and their good treatment as a government and people with the Sudanese in their second homeland, Eritrea.

We discussed issues of the two countries; including border issues and we agreed to hold a meeting that includes specialists from the Government of Sudan and the Eritrean government.

During my meeting with President Isaias Afwerki, we touched on the relations of the two countries and I gave him a detailed explanation about the situation in Sudan after the rebellion of the Rapid Support Forces, the secrets of the war politically and economically and the human suffering facing the Sudanese at home and at the border crossings with neighboring countries and we also discussed the initiatives proposed from within the region and other countries.

And I appreciated the clarity of the position of the Eritrean side, since the first day of the war in Sudan.

The president of Eritrea informed me that his country stands behind the Sudanese people and that the current initiatives are political bazaars in which Eritrea cannot/won't engage in, knowing that what is happening in Sudan is an internal matter that only concerns the Sudanese and that external interference will complicate matters exponentially.

Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki declared that his country is ready to support sudan whenever it’s requested and that they are backing the unity and sovereignty of Sudan and its land; as well as the Sudanese people, emphasizing that the relationship between the two countries is strategic.

May God, protect Sudan and its people.

On July 7, 2008 the government of Eritrea informed the UNSC that Eritrea
hopes that her repeated calls, for the sake of legality & justice, to the UN Security Council, which remains unfortunately dominated by a power hostile to Eritrea, will not be interpreted as futile or naive.

Eritrea statement came, after the UNSC President's statement of 12 June 2008 on accusation lodged by Djibouti. Eritrea reminded the UNSC, that it ignored Ethiopia's invasion of Musa Ali in Apr 2008 & Ethiopia's continued refusal to implement the final & binding border Ruling.

In mid-April 2008, Ethiopia invaded Mount Musa Ali, which lies at the confluence of the borders of Eritrea, Ethiopia & Djibouti occupying sovereign Eritrean & Djiboutian lands. Djibouti did not complain to the UNSC, about the invasion of Mt. Mussa Ali by Ethiopia.

On July 8, 2017, Asmera was added to UNESCO World Heritage List for its exceptional example of early modernist urbanism at the beginning of the 20th Century & its application in an African context & urban layout based mainly on an orthogonal grid later integrated elements of a radial system.

Some call Asmara: Piccola Roma (Little Rome)

Biniam Girmay: 'I managed to show that I am here in the Tour de France to win'

Intermarché-Circus-Wanty rider takes to podium on stage 7, encouraged ahead of stage 8's hillier run in to sprint chance

Tour de France 2023: Biniam Girmay of Intermarche-Circus-Wanty pictured at the start of stage 7 (Image credit: Getty Images Sport)

It was just Biniam Girmay’s https://www.cyclingnews.com/riders/biniam-girmay-hailu/ third opportunity to contest a Tour de France https://www.cyclingnews.com/tour-de-france/ sprint on stage 7 but already the Intermarché-Circus-Wanty rider has stepped up to the podium, taking a third place that has also given the Eritrean confidence for the fast finishes to come.

The charged and technical run into Bordeaux after 170km was not without controversy as winner Jasper Philipsen’s move across the road in the final dash to the line meant Girmay was squeezed in toward the barrier. Nevertheless, the 23-year-old managed to keep enough momentum to add a Tour de France podium to his Grand Tour tally, which already includes a first and second place from the 2022 Giro d’Italia.
What made me happy today is that I managed to show that I am here in the Tour de France to win a stage,
Girmay said in a team statement put out after the stage.
And even more importantly, that I reached the finish line safely.
In dangerous sprints like today, it is important that everyone respects the rules and sprints in a straight line. I really felt in danger when I hit the barriers with my foot. It could have ended in a nightmare for me and all riders behind.
Both Astana-Qazaqstan and Intermarché-Circus-Wanty protested https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/tour-d ... int-fails/ over Philipsen's deviation in the final sprint. However, there were no penalties handed down, unlike on stage 4 when Alpecin Deceuninck's Mathieu van der Poel, was fined for deviating from his line during the sprint lead-out for Philipsen, bumping Girmay in the process.
Anyway, I am proud to take my first podium in my first ever Tour de France,
said Girmay after stage 7. https://www.cyclingnews.com/races/tour- ... 7/results/
It shows that my condition is growing. Dion Smith and the rest of the team did a fantastic job in the final kilometres.
It has been a spring of challenges for Girmay, who finished 97th in Gent-Wevelgem after winning the race in 2022 and then he crashed at the Tour of Flanders, sustaining a concussion that lead to two months without racing. However, he had shown he was coming into his debut Tour de France with powerful form when he took victory on stage 2 at the Tour de Suisse.

The climb heavy start to the Tour de France this year has meant that the chances to chase that sprint win in the first week of racing have been limited, with Girmay taking 11th on stage 3 and 19th on stage 4 before jumping up to third behind Philipsen and Mark Cavendish (Astana Qazaqstan) https://www.cyclingnews.com/riders/mark-cavendish/ on Friday.

Saturday’s stage 8 immediately presents another opportunity, plus the hilly profile near the end of the 200.7km to Limoges is likely to play to Girmay’s strengths.
Collectively we are becoming stronger day by day, so I’m confident for tomorrow,
said Girmay.
With the harder profile we expect a smaller group to sprint for the victory and that’s what I prefer.

An Eritrean, named Fenqil, opened a small coffee roasting factory called @keshkeshcafe.

In a few years it became a popular coffee house for its unique brand- Keshkesh coffee- & is a famous spot amongst Nairobians; including expatriates.

Fenkil, besides producing & marketing his own 4 brands of roasted keshkesh coffee (with their different tastes) is also one of the professional coffee cuppers (tasters) in Africa.

He proudly showed us his certificate.

Truly, I learned a lot & now preferring the medium roast.
