Re: Somali Diaspora building Somalia...
Somali Diaspora numbering around 600,000 should return to develop Somalia Capital City Mocagdishu! Especially Muslim and Traditionalists from the West! Modernize the city and make it a port hub!
Re: Somali Diaspora building Somalia...
Mashallah... Mashallah... Somalia,
As an Eritrean, I am jealous of your achievements.
I wonder, terrorists such as al shebab (serving foreign entities) are desperately trying to hinder you from forming a viable state but hats off to you, you are challenging all the odds.
Finally,
In Eritrea, we are not familiar with alashabab types at least SO FAR but look how Eritrea is lagging behind.
Re: Somali Diaspora building Somalia...
Al Shabab is not a joke, as they killed 54 Ugandan soldiers during their attack on an African Union base in Somalia just last week!

The term "terrorist" is a harsh word and a bit exaggerated, I shouldn't have applied it.
BTW, what they did to the ugandan invaders is legitimate.
Hey! WTF are those baboons doing in Somalia? They should get the hell out of the Somalian territories.

I was surprised when the good lady shared with us the cost of renting a big apartment with 7 rooms and 2 bathrooms at only $800.00. Mind you we are talking of 7 rooms. In other words comparatively a 3 room apartment would perhaps cost $300.00
Man! Should I live in mogadishu when I retire? Will my somali brothers allow me to live amongst them? It is worth pondering on.
Wait, in my beloved ancestral home village which is located about 8 KM away from Keren, I built a very mini villa more than 2 decades ago hoping to live in it when I retire. Believe me it costed me peanuts then, only $5000. Nowadays it may cost more than $100,000. In my village among the many houses, there are only two mini villas, one belongs to me and the other belongs to a famous tigrayit female singer (name withheld).
Finally, I am getting older and it looks that issaas will overlive me, hence I don't believe I will retire and settle in my ancestral village. Mogadishu is an option for me now.

Bro, Kerenite,
I don't' agree with you on this one, I'm afraid.
Al Shabab is a perfect example of a terrorist organisation. They're terrorising Somali people and have been the major element that has been keeping Somalia in its protracted chaos.
In fact, their evil atrocities are even harsher than terrorism.
They're not there to liberate Somalis, as Somalia is occupied by no one. Instead, it's Somalis that need to be liberated from these evils.
As you know, all Somalis are Muslim, therefore, their claim of fighting infidels is an absolute nonsense. Apart from the AU soldiers, the ones they're killing on a weekly basis are Somalis.
Could you imagine if one of their heinous car bombings once killed over 300 people and seriously injured tantamount of people!
What they did to Ugandans is rather sad indeed.
You sound as if the AU Mission in Somalia were imposed on Somalis and Somalia didn't have any say on their presence and they were nothing but occupying forces! This is absolutely wrong and doesn't reflect the reality.
It's Somalia that has formally requested their intervention in Somalia and they continue their presence in Somalia on the full will of the Somali government, and no a single Somali treats them as occupying forces.
For instance, just a few years ago, they were the ones protecting the presidential palace and the parliament.
Their mission is mandated to pursue the following strategic objectives:
1. Enable the gradual handing over of security responsibilities from AMISOM to the Somali security forces contingent on abilities of the Somali security forces and political and security progress in Somalia;
2. Reduce the threat posed by Al-Shabaab and other armed opposition groups;
3. Assist the Somali security forces to provide security for the political process at all levels as well as stabilization, reconciliation and peace building in Somalia.
However, they've achieved nothing or very little of what their mission was mandated to achieve. But I don't think any Somali would call them baboons or anything close to this for this.
How could we call them baboons, when we know they've lost more than 3600 of their men on a territory that is not theirs fighting a war that's not theirs, especially when themselves and all Somalis know that they're not occupying forces, as they would pack their stuff and go back home if tomorrow the Somali government decides so! Can we say that Burundi or Uganda have interests in Somalia or its internal conflicts and quarrels! Hell no.
About two weeks ago, the Somali government informed the AU Mission in Somalia to reduce its contingent in Somalia and send 2000 of its soldiers back to their respective countries, as Somalia is gradually getting ready to be in charge of the security of the country and that the AU Mission in Somalia has been failing to achieve the strategic objectives it was mandated to pursue.
I understand perfectly well where you're coming from, but the picture you've is not one that reflects the reality in Somalia.

Kerenite,
$800.00 is even too expensive compared to a few years back.
But what you haven't taken into account is that such a cheap rent is due to the fact that the country is still not stable and is not attracting many Somalis in the diaspora yet, leave alone foreigners. Therefore, better stick to your ancestral home village, as Afwerki's time is up and he won't be hanging around for long.
I haven't watched the video, by the way.
Re: Somali Diaspora building Somalia...
The EU, which is funding the AU Mission in Somalia entirely, spending millions, doesn't want to fund building the Somali army and the security apparatus of the country, which would cost them a fraction of what they're spending on the African Mission in Somalia, simply because they're not serious about the fight against Al Shabab, and I believe the US is the one that wants Al Shabab to hang around, to use it to justify its misleading money making "war on terror."
Somali army alone with a minimum of arms could easily defeat and annihilate Al Shabab within days, not even months. But the West (the US, I mean) says that they would lift the arms embargo on Somalia only after Somalia has defeated Al Shabab and Somalia needs arms to defeat Al Shabab. How can you defeat Al Shabab without arms, This is obviously a chicken egg scenario.
