Sudan is on the grill!!!

Post by ittuabafarda » 20 Apr 2023, 22:35

Understandably we are all preoccupied with what is going on in the country that produced us all what will be in the offing for it. But let’s not to stay oblivious of what is happing next door in The Sudan. That concerns me the most now. I hope I will be found wrong I don’t the bloody clash between to the warlord there will come to an end until one finishes off the other. I don’t expect them to lay down their arms and pass the affairs of that country to a civilian government for the sole fact that both generals have committed serious crimes. Peaceful demonstrators were gunned by Burhan’s soldiers and the world never forgot what RSF(Janjaweed) did to citizens in Darfur. It will be a matter of time before ICC At The Hague starts asking for their blood soaked hands. They will keep fighting until both are deemed impotent. Then religious fanatics will come aboard. That country has a long history of being a bastion of religious fanaticism. That possibility worries me the most. Let’s hope and pray for a miracle where these two warlords will choose the peaceful ways. I am very, very worried witless!!!!

Having said that I will not be surprised if Egypt's long arm in the affairs of Sudan is in this carnage. Lets not forget the fact that Sudan was formed and created under the auspices of those superpower-wannabe generals in Al-Qahirah in 1956. They might have found Sudan lately cajoling too much with our old country in regards to the dam(GERD).

On the other hand what is happening in The Sudan and what led to the current bloodshed there should be taken as a stark lesson to its neighbors. A power armed unit was allowed to establish itself as a parallel to a legit government. RSF was allowed to grow into a formidable armed unit numbering more than 100 thousand and acting as a government itself. It has been forging diplomatic relationships with foreign countries in the Middle East with deep pockets. Now you have this. If this does not teach a thing or two to the country that produced us all, then what will. So you are forewarned!!!!

Ittuabafarda greetings,

Indeed Sudan is in the grill as you said. Two power hungry generals are fighting for presidency of sudan. They have utter contempt for the civilians, the army is even applying mig warplanes and tanks inside heavily populated areas in the city of khartoum which has 5 million inhabitants. This is new precedent, never in the recent or ancient history of Sudan that warplanes were utilized in Sudan save south sudan.

So far according to the international military experts neither of the 2 generals has the upper hand in the ongoing fighting.

Rumor has it, Himedti of the RSF is supported by 2 neighboring countries. Perhaps Chad could be one of them while Himedti originally hails from Chad.

Also he has the support of Russia thru its mercenary wing known as WAGNER and the libyan worldlord general Haftar.

Alburhan, the defacto head of state is supported by Egypt, Israel and uncle Sam.

Sadly this ugly civil war will not end anytime soon. Both warring parties possess roughly identitical number of troops, 120,000 under al burhan and 110,000 under himidti.

Alburhan in the coming weeks perhaps will have to some extent the upper hand while the over 100 sudanese warplanes are under his full control whereas his rival Himidti does not possess even one warplane.

Cheers!

kerenite,

I come to you betting you nothing but peace!!!

I just watched news on tv where it was reported that the two sides have agreed to a 3-day truce. But it is also reported that guns have not gone silent in the streets. The way things are shaped and set up I don't know how these two will come to a permanent truce without one is vanquished beyond repair. In such warfare where both sides are fighting other at very close proximities I am not sure how fighter jets and gunships would be effective against a mobile force. Fighter jets and gunships have not been effective in such civil wars. They never worked for Mengistu in the 1970's and 80's. In fact they turned out to his liabilities. They never worked in Vietnam, Afghanistan, Laos and Cambodia.

Does you name 'kerenite' is attributed to the city of Keren in Eritrea? I had the privilege of visiting that city of citrus fruits when I was a student in the Middle East in 1960's. It was a one day stay as gusts to a local merchant my classmate and I met in Asmara. My college classmate was from Middle East and wanted to see my country of origin. We had memorable time in that gem of a city. Since then I have had Eritreans who I consider dear friends even though my crowd is thinning out lately as we all marched into advanced age.

Blessings to you and your family!!!

Ittuabafarda greetings again,

I believe this ugly sudanese civil war won't end anytime soon. My sympathy is with the innocent sudanese civilians. So far over 400 lives have been lost.

Having said that,

Regarding your question, yes my nickname is attributed to my beloved home town KEREN, the multi-cultural city, you find every eri ethnic group in this city. Not only eritreans, we have somali brothers, nigerians whom we call tukrir they live among us amicably.

Keren is also well known for its orange trees and papaya trees. You find in abundance such trees around Keren.

Just one question, does your nickname have a specific meaning?

Have a great weekend brother.

kerenite,

It is saddens me to my core to hear the bloody conflict is still raging in the Sudan. I had been to that country on leisure when I was a student in the 1960's. The gullible Ibrahim Aboud was still the president. What a friendly people!! I went there to enjoy the 'haflas'(concert). I have nothing but love for those people and they do not deserve this. Lets hope and pray that they well get what they have been entitled to for so long: enduring peace.

My Middle Eastern classmate had enjoyed our short stay in Keren almost 60 years ago. We had found the orange there to be as sweet and delicious as the Jaffa variety. I hope it was not destroyed during the war. The Eritrean we befriended in Asmara had a 2nd family there. He was a merchant. The situation there was a little tense at that time and our friend did not want us to hang around too long and we did not have much open time to spare. Through that person we befriended I still have due respect to his countrymen/women. What upright and noble people!

I derived my name using my Oromo subclan from Western Hararghe and the main tribe it belongs to, that stretches all the way to the present day Wello(Wallo) region.

My motto is 'make friends where you go'. Age is now catching up with me and am now in the sunset of my life with the crowd of friends thinning lately at accelerated pace.

Peace and blessings!!!
