Asmara remained same as before, its inhabitants are 95% tigrigna speaking christians and muslims and the rest are sahos.

There are tigrayit speakers (tgres) in Asmara but most of them are ex-combatants and they work in public sectors.

The tgres same as before live in their vast regions such as: SEMHAR (massawa) /SAHIL (nakfa) /SENHIT (keren) and GASH BARKA (barentu) in addition, many of them fled to sudan in the 1960s.

They are pastoralists and farmes. There is no reason for them to settle in Asmara. What for? They are not traders or merchants.

Eritrea is not a member of the arab league at least so far. But once the eritrean parliament is established, the parliamentarians who will be elected by the broad masses will have the absolute right to decide whether eritrea has to join the arab league or adopt both tigrigna and Arabic as official languages as they were during the federation era.

Eritrea has 9 home-grown languages with Tigrinya and Arabic being the official languages. English is occasionally used as a working language, especially when communicating Government directives to foreign media.

This awareness of linguistic diversity has contributed to good internal harmony far better than the seeming endless ethnic rivalry on display in Ethiopia and Somalia.

This doesn't mean Eritrea does not have problems, the most significant being the lack of rule of law.
