Abiy Ahmed and Shimelis Abdissa tribalism is causing educational asylum seeking of more Oromo students into other regions. They were laughing when Amharas were displaced, now they are educational refugee themselves.![]()

- Security reason
- Discrimination, harassment/bully, at school by staff , faculty, fellow students or outside by the community
- Poor housing/lodging, meal
-Poor academic standard
- Cost related to distance or tuition charge/cost sharing policies
- Poor program accreditation and competitiveness in the job market, especially employment in their later in their home state. ( I heard from a student graduated from Oromia unable to find job in his region alleging his credential is poor)
Also,
It would be more interesting to know the proportion students from Oromia region feeder high schools would like to flee to other regions.

Aberu,
Here you can rest your case, it is very unfortunate that we think to have a country. I am not defending Oromia region, it is all in the mess, it is very very unfortunate. We are a laughing stock of the 21st century for the rest of the world.
But don't act as if your region is any better. It too is a bul***t, a tragic situation.
I met someone recently accidentally and we exchanged some few words and I asked him what he is doing. The guy (a very young man, perhaps in his late 20s or early 30s) told me that he is unemployed, has no career, forced to drop out of a university of Gonder (Bahirdar), I am not sure any more which one it was, but a degree program in Engineering, because of harassment of the Amhara students, just because he is from Oromia. He had to escape.
I am not making it up. This is the sad situation we are in. We are made wild beast hunting on each other. The politics we are waging on the higher level has already touched the ground.
This is what we are in!
That is the reality!

sunThe Oromo and Amhara peoples are friends and live together amicably, without any question being asked. Only some elements from all sides who lost their privileges due to the current ongoing change are causing intentional conflicts between the the two people

So, long as ethnocracy remains as the organizing system of things፣ education to0 will become a system of getthos and mis education. That would apply to all killils። With respect to Oromo killil, its future is not only brain drain and out-flow of knowledge, it will continue to suffer opportunity drain, investor fleeing, out migration of creativity, innovation , and energy of the producing class.
Peace, security, order, civility are the gravitational forces pulling people of knowledge, ideas, capital, labor, workers into particular market place which we call economic community. No rational human being leave alone people of ideas, money, energy, creativity decides to invest in place called Oromia with a full knowledge and experience that any day, any group of local thugs backed by the government of the killil can/would kill you burn your property and expropriate you .
So, Oromia is not only losing bright students, and bright educators, it is losing all kinds of intelligent and productive people. Culture is powerful. If you possess a culture of peace and work ethic, if you possess a culture of legality and civility you become a magnet of growth and development.
