The problem is still in the elite Tigrayan TPLF camp. The TPLF leadership have been telling the people of Tigray that : TDF is winning the war. Tigray is achieving every victory available in the war front. Tigray will move to independence thru self-determination ...
The propaganda was very laud and misguided.
Then the chickens came home to roost and the reality hit them hard. The peace agreement signed in South Africa tells them loud and clear that Tigray is just another regional Killil of Ethiopia -- nothing more, nothing less.
The peace agreement signed by Getachew Reda and Tsadqan tells them, the Tigrayan combatants have to go to Ethiopian reorientation camps, disarm and go back to their business. The Federal Ethiopian army and government will move to Tigray and Mekele to manage its affairs as they do everywhere. Tigray is no more a state within a state.
The problem is that Tigrayan elites in Tigray and diaspora are having a problem to swallow this reality signed by Getachew Reda and Tsadqan.
This is what puts the Getachew Reda, Tsadqan and the entire leadership of TPLF in a big trouble. If Getachew Reda, Tsadqan and the rest of the Tigrayan negotiators return to Mekele, they need to be afraid for their life.
Rightly or wrongly, some Tigrayans and very few observers see this agreement as a formal agreement of surrender or capitulation.
The Tigray people and most of the ordinary poor are tired of the war, they want peace and to live within Ethiopia. Many ordinary Tigrayans ask rightly -- is there anything positive Tigray gained because of the war after November 2021? What was the war about?
This is how ambassador Redwan puts it:
