Re: Bravo! Those 12th grade students who refused to take exams will not get a second chance this year
@temari,
I do not know why you are cheering this! You should not be happy for thousands of families of teenager's sentenced to illiteracy. I will call this the highest level of stupidity and irresponsibility. This kind of outright claim needs time to account for the facts behind in stead of making political statements. The end goal after all is achieving equity and quality in education.
it is premature to claim this unilateral agency (Ministerial) level decision, first should be valid and have merit in the court of justice, not in the media. Only the law of the land has the power to strip off rights of individuals not a particular agency or PM or President. Should the students or Student Association appeal this national crisis to the court (supposing the court is independent) they have the full legal right; that is Student Association vs. Ministry of Education of the "FDRE" case. Only then everyone knows the truth. About 13,000 is not a small number, I have heard from others that the number is as high as 59,000. In both cases, there sounds either a deliberate political under counting or exaggeration. Regardless of this, the crisis is big enough that should taken to the court.

They have every right to appeal to courts. But as far as I heard from eye witnesses and teachers on the spot, these kids had no valid reason to refuse to take the exams. There must be a harsh penalty for this kind of stupid behaviour. In fact, I would have banned them from taking exams forever. Next year students will be very careful before throwing their lives out of the window. If the government allows this kind of behaviour then we will see more of this drama in the next years. We can't allow this to happen! I'm glad the government is not allowing them to take exams, at least this year. I would have went even further and banned them forever.Abere wrote: ↑25 Oct 2022, 17:16@temari,

Of course, this is the right decision. If they want the guy to be freed from prison, they have every right to petition, have demonstration on his behalf, but taking the Education ministry hostage is nonsense. The interest of hundreds of thousands of students who chose to take the exam supersedes the interest of those who refused to take the exam. Those students who refused to take the exam have difficulty differentiating Education ministry from ministry of justice. Berhanu Nega is not in position to arrest or release from prison anyone: the wrong person to ask.
