In the modern history of Ethiopia this is the most challenging time the Federal Ethiopia and the state of Tigray are both facing. But I am very encouraged and thrilled that we have also got the best World Athletic Championship result ever. Our Athletes once again have raised high the flag of mother Ethiopia , which is a country with an amazing history of producing legendary athletes since the great Abebe Bikila. This Athletic Championship that was conducted on the soil of the greatest nation on the earth, with united 52 Federal states , a model of democracy, tolerance and human right, has brought every Ethiopian to a relative unity and I urge the Ethiopian government to use this opportunity to campaign for the unity & tolerance among Ethiopians despite their political orientation, ethinicity, religion etc. I would like to thank PM Abiy for the leadership and support he has accorded to the Ethiopian Sports Commission and I would also like to thank the President of the state of Tigray Dr. Debretsion for developing world class athletes from Tigray that brought 3 of the 4 golds that placed Ethiopia on the top of the World Athletics Champion Rankings, next to the USA and the top from Africa. Ethiopia has envious history of independence , produces world class athletes and has built a world class Airline that is number one in Africa and more success models shall evolve over time. Ethiopia is destined by God to be amongst the greatest nations of the world, as far as we learn from our mistakes, forgive, reconcile and love to each other but it could also be disintegrated if we contuinue to hate , do not forgive and kill each other and the choice is ours!
With this background I call on Dr. Abiy and the Ethiopian government the following :
- Reinstate all services to Tigray
- Free and unfettered access for humanitarian aid and activities with more corridors opened via the Amhara state.
- Prepare a special flight to Tigray and let all athlets, their coaches and leaders directly fly to Mekelle and let the grand celebration be done in Mekelle in the presence of the Tigrayan government leadership and relevant ministers from the Ethiopian government and another grand celebration to be followed in Addis Ababa or the vice versa.
May we obey God so that Ethiopia remains united and moving toward it's great destiny!
