ATHLETE GOTYTOM GEBRESLASE WON THE WOMEN’S MARATHON AT THE 18TH ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIP. The following statement his excerpt from her interview.

“I am the 3rd child in my family. My mother was highly respected in the area when she conceived me, then when I was born she called me “gotiytom” – as in ‘lady’.

“I am happy, but I am emotionally all over the place with mixed emotions. I would have liked to hear and see my mother and father celebrating just like all Ethiopians. May God bring peace and… It’s great fun, but I’m also a little confused.”

“Believe me, I know where I was this time. I left Tigray last year when the road opens. First, God helped me, then my coaches not only by training, but also by helping me not to get hurt like a brother. They brought me here saying don’t worry everything will pass. I thank them!”

You see practice does work. She practiced running when TPLF army run 600 k.m in five days, from the gates of Debre-Birhan all the way to Mekkele. That run must be world's record. Anyway i am glad she won and i am glad the practice worked.

ጎተይቶም (ጎተይቲ + ኦም) is feminine Tigriyna form of ጎይትኦም (ጎይታ + ኦም) which is equivalent to Amharic name Getachew. I wonder if Getachew has a feminine form in Amharic.

Lucky!

First, she saved her life. TPLF would have sent her along with other rag tags and be either among the 900,000 unlucky victims or got pregnant from one of the rag tag

second, she is a proof that Ethiopia and Ethiopians do not discriminate Tigres , but give them equal opportunity. Extend their love, support and encouragement.

Third, good for her, she won and successfully escaped generational poverty.

Fourth, other rag tag Tigres better stay away from her. Don't bother her and mislead her. Winning is something, it will have meaning if she got the respect and admiration of Ethiopians all. Without Ethiopians, it means nothing. The value of something means it got acceptance and value from the population. For instance, Abiy Ahmed won the most prestigious Nobel Peace Prize, unfortunately now Ethiopians discredited it and attached Zero value to it. TPLF rats known for rolling on their backs in streets of the West, do not push her from title of Hero to Zero. After all she is a runner.

Thanks for clarifying. I was totally lost. Never heard such name. Great accomplishment in the face of what seems like insurmountable task. She’s lucky to have Team mates and coaches that went above and beyond to stand by her. Sport brings out the best of humans.

Unfortunately, Getachew Reda is obese let alone run marathon he had hard time fleeing to dodge straying bullets.

Saw her on tv. She is majestic runner. She has done her fair share to her country. She earned it to ask to meet her family. They should arrange that. Easy verdict for me.

True. I wonder how they could achieve such outstanding global achievement while worrying day and night about the safety of their immediate family for 2 years!
