It sounds like that. People I know by the name "Gidey" has several cut mark on their faces. You don't find more frequent tally cut mark on other Folks holding different names. That is kind of scary mark.

I think Thomas has to make sure the definition of Gidey because, the mark does not validate the name ፋንታዬ (ድርሻዬ). The burden of proof is on Thomas now

u have one great subject to discuss this is very important many country have baby name law that restrict you naming a child illegal name or insulting name u cant just name your baby anything you want .. hence the Amhara name most of them should be banned for example

there was another too that goes by the name ባርያ ገብር. Why is this name common in Tigray culture? Which tribe is using this name?

It is ባርያ ጋብር. ጋብር is another name for አቡነ ገብረ መንፈስ ቅዱስ. There's a historic 12th century monastery in Guraghe called ምድረ ከብድ አቡነ ገብረ መንፈስ ቅዱስ ገዳም. So ባርያ ጋብር means servant of Ghabir. Actually Ghebre / ገብረ in Geez is translated to ባርያ in Tigrigna and Amharic . For example, የገብረ እግዚአብሔር ትርጓሜው የእግዚአብሔር ባሪያ ማለት ነው. I am sure there were many Oromo, Amhara, Ghurage ባርያ ጋብርs in the past centuries.

Muslim name Abdalla aslo means "servant of God". Hebrew name Obadiah also means servant of God.

The main thing is the intention for example the black American call each other by N name but try one white to use this N word hell broke out. in India Neg0 means black there is no other word for them to call u...so there intention is not to mean bad but that is what they know but once information age reach India to be politically correct they might change it i don;t know

we all know someone with nick name ባርቾ all could be in loving and the intention is good but we r talking about register name ... government document name should be all good intention for example what is legal in Oromia might not be legal in Amhara vice versa

The name I find difficult to accept is ደመላሽ (ደም-መላሽ). It just unfair on the poor child!
