Why did TPLF crush into the ravine and lost power? It’s because its strategy of dominating as a minority failed to keep the other major ethnicities divided and uncooperative. If you’re a minority your chances of domination is minuscule if you’re not democratic. To be undemocratic you have better chance if you are a majority. But for TPLF it’s divide and rule method got lost after Meles died and the Oromos-OPDO and Amharas-ANDM began having space to breathe and devise. So TPLF slept at the wheel and became off-guard of keeping the two on edge.

Now Abiy has many advantages:

(1) he’s from a majority group and that group has intermarried and cross-bred to give him both legs in the two worlds of the majority and beyond;

(2) TPLF and political elite is doing Abiy a huge favor by keeping the political discourse on divide-and-rule mode and keeping people to stay on different planes/pages. So Tigray’s/TPLF’s being outside the united front and the propaganda still diving Amhara and Gallas and all others, Abiy has to kick back and relax as people divided can’t rise up at the same time.

(3) Abiy has lock-jammed TPLF to Tigray and has left it’s subjects to be punished by their own vanguard party. So Tigrians will start turning their eyes on TPLF as time goes by and their readiness to follow TPLF will erode as we’re even witnessing the diaspora who lost their steam. This will keep Tigrians at distance limbo so they can’t see eye to eye to each other and not to ally with other Ethiopians to work in tandem.

(4) the unbridled media and the unprecedented free speech Abiy gave to people will vent emotions as that won’t pile up to explode. (Remember Meles had a good ride until 2005 when he muzzled media after Kinijit and his downhill ride started). For the rest the media and elite is programmed to do the divide and rule game for him as the infighting of Amhara elite against Gallas and Tegaru … would keep population un-united and weak for Abiy.

Now you ask “why did Abiy stop talking about unity, Emmamma Tobia… ?” Why should he when unity is not good for you?

I agree that Tegaru as rivals to Amharas have fought to supplant yourselves with Amharas or as we call you become “gilgel neftegna”. So you may have come to replace Amharas but you came to liberate no one from anybody - you came to benefit yourselves and had a good run at it. [You have to know you couldn’t even share with Merera and Beyene let alone with Lencho and Birhanu.]

But sure TPLF was a force that played A PART in the movement against Derg. But it’s just one piece.

But one of the biggest piece and a common denominator in toppling the last 3 governments in Ethiopia is - yes your heart knows it - ERITREA.

Once the jebha/Shabia got entrenched, that was the force that started fissures in the hitherto solid feudal monolithic rule, then Derg spending 85% of its military resource in Eritrea (10% to TPLF shiftas) and then keeping hope alive for the opposition as a harbor to opponents of EPRDF making is yichalal to topple TPLF. So no force has been as pervasive and consequential as Eritreans in regime changes in Ethiopia for last 60 years.

But also social change and revolutions are no one group’s property. A lot going into it as TPLF is one of those components.

But TPLF is the most boldest group in history to rewrite history, to revise history and to misappropriate history. That is part of the grandeur psyche that brought you to where you’re now and all you have to do now is double down on it because getting reality checked is not in your collective conscience. And the more you get detached from reality, the more you stay astray and off-mark from the truth making it good for your opponents to keep you at bay.

Let’s be adults and put things in perspective. Life is too short to wallow in a sea of lies.

Gallas will never take TPLF seriously any more for many reasons:

TPLF’s image during Meles was at its epitome. Then its luster started to fade and when it was kicked out by Qerro, it showed it’s true colors. Then its bloodbath and slaughterhouse party damaged its standing before Ethiopians and Oromos who wanted to “use” TPLF in turn-for-tat mutualism of kicking Abiy out so TPLF would feel its vengeance and also get a seat at the dinner table with Jawar, Bekele and others. Now Jawar is defanged and is quietly waiting for the next election after 4 years.

My guess is as Abiy is drying up Jawar’s base by letting Oromos get empowered and corrupt…, no Oromo would find use for Jawar. Oromos have suffered in Wollo and generally because of TPLF’s war so no partnership is possibly largely because no one gives TPLF any respect and latitude as before.

So TDF/TPLF are on their own to try to stir the water yet for another round.

In the back of every elite is the thought that overpopulation gives you the idea that humans are not that precious anymore. So if some are sacrificed so what? This is what Debretsi and Getachew and General Taya Beer think.
