Yes Tigray was hostile towards Eritrea before Tesfazion, but had no claim on Eritrea save for few kilometers here and there near the border. Who owned what had gradually become stabil in the minds of both peoples, and there was little or no confusion about this.
Tesfazion destabilised these perceptions, and among the Tigrays fostered a frame of mind that alienated them from their Ethiopian identity. He made them believe that Eritrea is part of their heritage, and that there might be a future for them with Eritrea. This misguided perception of what heritage belongs to whom has now become a fertile source of hostility.
How can Eritrea help stabilise perceptions among Ethiopians and Tigrays, and create a conducive atmosphere for possible future collaborations?
Eritrea can do this by stopping all silly talk about regional integration, and all foolish behaviour of encouraging Ethiopia to be part of a Red Sea forum that it has no business joining.
The statements made, at different times, by Dina Mufti, Demeqe Mokonnen, Abiy Ahmed and Lena Megersa dissing Eritrean sovereignty all deserved a rapid response from the Eritrean government, but we saw none coming. I'm sure they will not miss to respond to such an opportunity next time 'round.
Re: How Tesfazion prolonged the state of hostility between Tigray and Eritrea
Justo, there is no such thing called Eritrea. It is an illusion created by Italy. Eritrea was a name of a town in Europe during the Roman Empire. The Italians occupied the region and named the Tigrigna speaking Highland region Eritrea.
The Red Sea shore belongs to the people of Afar.
That is the absolute fact.
You will see it on your lifetime may be sooner than you thought the Afars will claim their legitimate land.

This is what I was talking about, the kind of state of mind that Eritrea needs to modify, leaving no room for confusion.Right wrote: ↑15 Apr 2022, 09:37Justo, there is no such thing called Eritrea. Eritrea belongs to Eritreans, including the Eritrean Afars. There is no confusion about this on the Eritrean side of the border, and there should be no confusion about this on the other side of the border.
Money and goods can freely cross the border, but no free movement of people is required or appreciated

The name eritrea is over 2,000 years old it means Qey Bahir the ancient called Red Sea the Erytrean Sea
Re: How Tesfazion prolonged the state of hostility between Tigray and Eritrea
Justo, I like your take, however; Eritrea is engaging from point of strength. Eritrea knows Ethiopia is not a threat, so do Sudan, so Do Djibouti. The Eritreans proved their mighty to everyone on the region. Regarding the Tigryans; they are a lost cause, their leaders molested them in the wrong worst possible way. The Tigryans was rapped by their own leaders. They were told that there is no earthly power who can much the Tigryans. They were told they are a golden race. When the fact was the opposite. So, before you can fix them, you need to break them and I believe that process is going on as we speak. How do you think a Tigryan feel when cross the border to Amhara Killil? How do you think a Tigryan feel when crosses the border in to Eritrea in search food? This is absolutely humiliating experience and this the exact process of break them before you can fix them. Remember how Germany behaved after they were broken to pieces. I totally agree, Zemen. Eritrea acting from a position of strength can either choose to ignore them or choose to modify their mind-set and behaviour such that they do not continue to be nuisance to its peace and happiness.ZEMEN wrote: ↑15 Apr 2022, 12:32Justo, I like your take, however; Eritrea is engaging from point of strength. Re: How Tesfazion prolonged the state of hostility between Tigray and Eritrea
Gash Abere, believe you me, I only have well wishes towards Ethiopia, and nothing but good intentions. But I get tired of this talk of regional integration among African and Arab countries that never materialises and is never practical. I use to live in Detroit, right across the border to Canada and later in San Diego near the Mexican border, I never heard of any talk of regional integration. America, Canada and Mexico were happy being who they were.Abere wrote: ↑15 Apr 2022, 12:54አቶ ጀሶ፤

There are many small countries in Europe too, who even used to belong to the same empire, I never hear of any regional integration nonsense, they have friendly relationships and are good neighbours to each other, and that is all you need for commerce to thrive, nothing more nothing less.
Countries are entities and there should be no confusion about what they are and what they are not, such confusion is the source of all conflict and hostility.
Re: How Tesfazion prolonged the state of hostility between Tigray and Eritrea
Justo, the reason regional integration is needed and vital is No African country let alone the horn of Africa can stand up in their two feet’s i.e. they need another pair of leg to stand up. Similarly, you don’t hear about regional integration like between Detroit and Canada, between Cali and Mexico is because they are strong enough to drive their own economy unlike the horn where the economy is dead. So, I do understand Eritrea’s intention and it is the right path for the horn of Africa. The problem is the region is corrupt, lazy and aid addicted and they can’t understand and see Eritrea’s vison.justo wrote: ↑15 Apr 2022, 13:10Gash Abere, believe you me, I only have well wishes towards Ethiopia, and nothing but good intentions.
