Before recruiting their own police from within, Addis Ababans must be first willing to peacefully struggle for their city, win an election and administer their city if they are serious but for me it looks like they have no interest to do so.

Everybody knows the former EPRDF and also PP are highly dominated by "የክፍለ-ሃገር ሰዎች" and they don't have the Addis Ababan mentality. They are doing based on how they see Addis Ababa, i.e. they see Addis as a city of Beher Behereseboch, which is different from how majority of Addis Ababans see their own city i.e. a city of the residents not a playground of "የክፍለ-ሃገር ሰዎች". In my view these are two opposing views.

If Addis Ababans don't like the way things are running, they should establish their own political party and try to win their city in the next election.
Being idle and crying foul is never a solution but doing something about the issue at hand if one wants to change it, is the way forward.

Besides, I doubt if it is possible to find 50,000 "native Addis Ababans" who would be willing to work as police officer with low salary.
Even if we find 50,000 residents who are willing to work as police officers, the majority of them will most likely be "new immigrants" from other regions. In any case, we will end up with police officers from other regions.

Having said that, it is clear that the security of the city needs improvement and increasing the number of police officers is a good step in the right direction.

you might have come to the political arena recently or you are selectively remembering things or you have forgotten what it was like. Before 'mirCha 97" Addis had its own police forces most of whom were recruited from within the city. There was never a shortage of manpower despite the meager salary. Came the 2005 election and the embarrassing defeat of TPLF, it brought with it a new thinking that is geared to ejecting Addis Abebe from the political, economic and security decisions of their City. The Addis Ababa police before 2005 was of course the tool to be used by TPLF as desired but wasn't as brute as the current ones. Whenever there was political opposition movement within the city, it was the Agazi forces from WuQro who used to be deployed in Addis. After 2005, no Addis Abebe is allowed to be employed in the City's police force.

Addis Ababa is the melting pot of all Ethiopians so it doesn't need other killes to hire a police, 7000000 is more than a kelel it is a country.
