On February 7, in Massawa, the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia
Mikhail Bogdanov was received by the President of the State of Eritrea,
Isaias Afwerki, and had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Eritrea,
Osman Saleh, and on February 8, he held a meeting in Asmara consultations with the Commissioner (with the rank of Minister) for Culture and Sports of Eritrea,
Zemede Tekle.
During the conversations, a set of issues for the further progressive development of Russian-Eritrean cooperation in various fields was discussed in detail, with an emphasis on promoting mutually beneficial partnerships in the fields of energy, mining, healthcare and education.
As part of a confidential dialogue on international and African issues of mutual interest, the intention of Moscow and Asmara to strengthen constructive cooperation in the UN and other international organizations was confirmed. At the same time, special attention was paid to the military-political and humanitarian situation in the Horn of Africa. A number of practical aspects of preparations for the second Russia-Africa summit in 2022 were also considered.
