Post by sarcasm » 15 Dec 2021, 20:06

If you just listen to what he says -- it is not about himself he was talking about, he was talking about what the Ethiopian leaders have done to Africa prior he became a Prime-minister of Ethiopia. So Ethiopia is a jewel of Africa because of what Ethiopia did on behalf of Africa. Even now by standing against the new slave masters, Ethiopia is leading by example. That is a complex concept to digest to House --n-s.
1 – Nelson Mandela wrote in his Autobiography,
“Ethiopia always has a special place in my imagination and the prospect of visiting Ethiopia attracted me more strongly than a trip to France, England, and America combined. I felt I would be visiting my own genesis, unearthing the roots of what made me an African. ”

This debate is one of those instances in which even his political opponents respect him. I thought I was the kid who invented the show me your alternative approach or method (ዘዴ). It is a simple way to tell if anyone challenging your idea has a better idea or didn't get your idea.

In my view, he had full command of the approach in this debate. That said, I have to either educate myself on what qualifies Atse Haile Selassie to be called a reactionary, especially at a forum that he helped create, or see if it stands the test of time. I also ask if calling him Atse instead of Emperor in this forum would have been better. It is a Tigrigna word and by extension an Ethiopian and African word, right?

Two other instances that I heard and respect him for even more are a simple question that he once asked somewhere in Europe, if I remember correctly, and a simple statement that he once made using የዐይን ብሌን as a metaphor.

The simple question that he asked in Europe, which I heard over a radio broadcast, parallels with the message of Atse Haile Selassie's speech at the League of Nations.

The question of his full commitment to the territorial integrity of Ethiopia remains unanswered for me. I have yet to learn if my perception of what Ethiopia was facing around 2004 to 2005 is inaccurate. That perception led me to write a four-part commentary to express my thoughts about it in a group forum.

I remember one Ethiopian who read the first two parts reached out to me positively and stated that he would get back to me about it. I hope he doesn't mind calling him an Ethiopian. He never got back to me after reading the other two parts. The only thing I can speculate about between reaching out positively on one's own volition and then becoming mute is the qualitative difference in those sections in terms of taking on a political organization and not taking on my country, our country.

So, given this historical debate of his and not fully understanding what Ethiopia was facing around 2005, which was after he practically led it for 14 years by then (1991 to 2005,) it doesn't fully answer for me if he loved our common country or if he was indifferent at the very least. I wish to be enlightened about it in order to dispel my perception in case it is wrong. As some people have suggested, Menghistu was a victim of his excited subordinates. I don't know if the same applies to Meles as well or if he may also be a victim of some characters that saw an opening of selfish opportunity through him.

Can he argue Ethiopia’s interest as Meles ? You are comparing a tribal, village guy with a nationalist leader. Shame on you. Comparing apples and oranges. In fact, he is not only fighting for the interest of Ethiopia. He is way beyond that. He is aiming to fight the African cause. A villager cannot have the comprehension of the interest of Africa. A nationalist leader does.
