The former Midribahri and present day Eritrea has been a thorn in a flesh on Ethiopia and Tigray for a long time. It has been a foothold of the strategic enmies of Ethiopia such as Arabs, Turkish and Egypt and also for European colonizers such as Portuguese and Italy. Currently it has been the agent of Egypt as a destabilization force on Ethiopia and committed barbaric actions, genocide, rape, and infrastructural destruction and looting on Tigray and has been the catalyst for the civil war going on in Ethiopia. In addition Eritreans are involved on the global currency black market to/from Ethiopia and even body parts illegal business from Ethiopia via Gondar to Sudan.The following are the two possible paths the post Abiy Ethiopia and Tigray governments must consider to follow:

- The carrot path:
While respecting the soveriginity of Eritrea make sure only Tigray and Ethiopia friendly government governs Eritrea and integrate the economy of Eritrea with Tigray and Ethiopia including liberalized border, cross investments, integrated job market and joint utilization of infrastructure such as electrical power, air transport, rail transport and use of ports of Eritrea.

- The stick path
Dismantle the present day Eritrea as follows:

- Integrate Afars and incorporate the Assab- port with the new Ethiopia

- Integrate Serie, Acologizay, Tigre, Saho, Hamassen etc with Tigray and incorporate Massawa with Tigray

- The Bejas and others in West Eritrea could either be an independent state or join with Sudan

My preference is the carrot path but Assab- has to be incorporated with Afar of Ethiopia as a strategic penality for all the evil Eritrea committed on Tigray and Ethiopia.
