ethiopscience, the ET Ambassador has made a brilliant presentation. I didnt notice anything wrong in his presentation and his diplomatic and humble response to Gutterese. In my view, I rather found Gutterese both hot headed and shallow to the point that his body language speaks even if his mouth lies.

I would say Bravo to Amb Taye. And if needed (its not a must), I do believe that the ET gov has got adequate evidences that could expose both Gutterese and others

The question is why now? As Guterres pointed at the end of the video he requested twice PM Abiy and did‘t get any response from The PM office!!!!

Guterres seems to have listened to the leaked UN video in which UN officials in Addis accuse the UN of politicization of the UN. They also say they don't have written document but are witnessing the increasingly one sided politicizing of the work of the UN.

Now Guterres instead of calling for investigation by talking to these UN personnel asks a written document knowing exactly these UN officials in the leaked audio said that they don't have it. He should take the allegation seriously and start an investigation but he is playing games.

The Ethiopian ambassador did a great job as usual.

Apart from this incident I agree that Ethiopia should double its efforts in the area of foreign diplomacy and lobbying. Our foreign minister is the most under-performing minister in my view and should have been replaced but we are stuck with him. The government as a whole is also responsible for many of the diplomatic debacle.

Listen to the leaked video and you will understand why Guterres is asking for written documents instead of investigating the allegations that come from his own UN personnel. He is playing games.

The ET Ambassador mentioned the ET gov informed the UN in July and has also summoned the individuals. Unless those at ET gov are idi@ts, they do so with written communications. Besides, the ET gov should have evidences of accusations on the said staff, most likely video and audio. The fact that the leaked audio say there is no docs recieved, I would rather trust the ET gov side than this leaked video conversation. You may wonder why. 1st we need to ask who leaked this video, 2nd what if the UN office in ET denies the reception of such docs to save the ar$ of their own and some others in NY, 3rd what if the UN office in ET is instructed to deny the reception of docs so that Guterrese will try to evade accusations, saying he is unaware of the matter?

I do agree that Gutterese is trying to play games but his arrogance added to his preemptive accusation of Ethiopia before investigation is conducted tells me that he is in big trouble. I still stand by the side of the ET Ambassador and the ET gov included. Remember, Redwan Hussein had many things to say about the misconduct of humanitarian agencies. That means, the ET gov wouldnt take such decision of expulsion without having credible evidences at hand.

The fact that the Gutterese has not recieved any reply from the ET gov, if his saying is true, I wouldnt take that a diplomatic failure from the ET side. One may ask why. My guess is that the ET gov anticipated the US and some others would bring the matter to the UNSC even if it sounds the first of its kind (without adding the GERD issues, a trans boundary water issue no other country in the world came in front of the UNSC except now Ethiopia). Thus, the time between the notice of expulsion and the UNSC meeting is short. Furthermore, it could be strategic from the ET gov side to keep silent until they bring every information ibfront of everyone. I think, Gutterese's visible anger might also be that related to the fact that his authority is undermined by the ET gov. Given the arm twisting influence the US has on UN, the ET gov has done a great job by bringing first hand information in front of the SC.

Indeed the US undermines the authority of the UN and Antonio Guterres in his capacity as the SG of the UN.

The Ethiopian representative is a consummate diplomat. He never loses his temper even when he is tempted to do so by some acting stupid or arrogantly.

Good discussion. What we saw was a classic closing argument in front of a jury in a court. Ethiopia presented brilliant argument. UN rebutted by asserting that we lack the evidence to prove our case. But, here is the essence of the matter. The UN corruption is now exposed to the whole world. Ethiopia the invictus, again stood her ground with US/EU power and Guterres is forced to clean their dirty line. Now, it does not matter. The job is done. Biden has already instructed his staff to draft a new African policy called 'Africa prosper'! (የብልጽግና ፓርቲን ስም ቀምቶ ማለት ነው!!)። My point is that Ethiopia has essentially won the war. What is left is blame games, guilt trips, justification, rationalization, ba bla ! Problem of Tgiray is an Ethiopian problem and we will see how Tigreans will interact with Abiy and come to some kind of liveable solution. As for the use of TPLF for US/UK intervention, that is put to rest. America knows it needs a new policy and we will see what would look like. America now knows it can't make us kneel down, ditto.
