The population of Tigray is around 10 million

Post by EthioRedSea » 06 Sep 2021, 13:00

Tigray is too humble and naive. The population of Tigray is much higher than given in CIA Fact Book.
In 1981, Tigray's population was around 4.5million. Fertility rate in Tigray and Ethiopia is around 4.1%, which makes about 185500 people born each year, which makes 7.38 million in 40 years in total of people born in Tigray(1981-2021), which is about 11.88million people in total. If we deduct the population that have died in the last 40 years, Tigrays population will be about 10 million ( Death rate in Ethiopia is 6.3 per 1000 which means 6300 per million, which is about 2.5 million people in Tigray have died in the last 40 years. Thus Tigray's population now should be about 9.5 million.

Tigray should follow family friendly policies as the population needs to be increased for economic reasons and to defend the Tigray population from hostile forces in the Horn of Africa. Historically Tigray is the equivalent of ancient Rome, China, Prussia etc

What are you going to feed all these mouths? You can't be a burden for food aid on the international community; Tigray is an ecologically degraded and over grazed land. The vital statistics such as the birth rate, death rate and outmigration you indicated above are not good because those assumptions are not valid goingforard since the first ever population and housing census of Ethiopia by Derg. The death rate is substantially higher due to HIV/AIDs, war and hunger, the population exodus is very alarming; and fertility is lower due to birth control and high cost of living. The actual Tigray population is probably between 3 - 4 million, leaving you probaly with an aevrage of 3.5 million. Are you counting Alula Solomon in this stat?

The reality is now the Malthusian check is operating in Tigray. These checks are hunger, war and conflict. It is hard to be optimist regarding the demography of Tigray. It is a region most likely experiencing population decline.
