This is manifestly not Saigon,
Secretary of State Antony Blinken bellowed on the Sunday talk shows https://nypost.com/2021/08/19/mccains-2 ... xit-chaos/ last weekend, attempting to spin his boss’s inexplicably ill-executed Afghanistan withdrawal. https://nypost.com/2021/08/19/afghanist ... n-history/

As Americans watched the most embarrassing foreign policy debacle in national history unfold, Blinken’s cavalier assertion proved to be a lie.

The fact that Blinken promoted such a patently false outlook as an administration-approved TV talking point only underscored that there was simply nothing else to say. The American people saw for themselves the hurried helicopter evacuations https://nypost.com/2021/08/17/biden-tea ... ghanistan/ from the U.S. embassy and the Taliban jihadists march into Kabul’s presidential palace. https://nypost.com/2021/08/15/taliban-a ... n-reports/

To borrow from human-rights attorney Kimberley Motley, as quoted in The Wall Street Journal, the situation is actually more akin to
Saigon on steroids.

Blinken was not just wrong on the Saigon comparison — he was horribly, incontrovertibly wrong on everything related to the Afghanistan pullout. Given the fraught geopolitical stakes involved here, and given the secretary of state’s indispensable role as the president’s effective top foreign policy advisor, Blinken should resign his post.

The secretary of state is, of course, not merely the United States’ top foreign policy sage. He also heads up our global embassy network, which means Blinken is ultimately accountable https://nypost.com/2021/08/19/us-diplom ... n-advance/ for having no plan to safely evacuate on Uncle Joe’s artificial, ideologically driven withdrawal timeframe.

Blinken and his boss similarly bear the blame for the fact that more than 10,000 U.S. citizens https://nypost.com/2021/08/19/some-of-t ... ghanistan/ remain stranded at a time when the “Afghanistan Evacuation” special section of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs site pathetically asserts: https://nypost.com/2021/08/20/biden-stu ... ach-kabul/
The United States Government cannot ensure safe passage to the airport.
The buck stops with our commander-in-chief, https://nypost.com/2021/08/17/biden-onc ... ghanistan/ but Blinken’s State Department also independently botched this ill-fated withdrawal.

Blinken, following his boss’s lead, has been generally missing in action after last weekend’s pitiful tour across the Sunday talk shows. Blinken did admit that the Taliban retook Afghanistan more swiftly and easily than was expected after the U.S. drawdown. Well, whose fault is that, exactly?

Finally, it was recently revealed that an internal State Department memo that circulated last month warned top officials at Foggy Bottom about the potential imminent collapse https://nypost.com/2021/08/18/journalis ... arp-speed/ of Kabul after a U.S. withdrawal.

Blinken appears to have reviewed that missive — and opted to ignore it.

Resign, Tony.

Dawi,

just to be able to type somehow better on my keyboard let me switch to english: before you ask me in which planet I am living on, wouldn't it be better to ask from which planet the author of the article Zmeselo shared with us is?

He/She is the original author and I just commented it. I also added about the same demand the BBC reported with respect to the Foreign Minister of the UK, also to resign, and wouldn't it be better to ask from which planet those who made that demand come from?

You were a good guy before you started to associate and spend your valuable time listening to the worthless 360 something. Now the chickens come home to roost, you wished it and you got it. :

Defend - That was supposed to be a complement for your view of the American compassion; I don't subscribe to that. At the same time, I am kind of glad that Blinken is distracted from our case; I think Zmeselo feels same that the dude is temporarily occupied with mostly "fake" American accusers, who actually thank him for botching the exit from Afghanistan deep down their hearts.

We're all glad he may leave Ertrea, Amhara and ENDF alone for now. That is good.

Other than that, yeah! I still listen to 360 when I get a chance; Habtamu's latest interview of the public something Minister from Ethiopian Embassy DC is interesting. You should watch it. We all need to monitor different opinions. OBN is not going to be the only thing; you know! :P They've English program too? Thanks for sharing.

Dawi,

If you want to get open to the rest of the world, then it is also a must to speak the language that this rest of the world speaks, else stay closed to the world, which is no more tenable. There was something called globalization that the world was talking about very often.

It is not peculiar to OBN alone to try taking the route of multi-lingualism.

Here also ETV doing beyond English as well.

How good is Ermias Legesse's fluency in English when you "monitor" it? Is he cut-off from the english speaking world the same way he is already cut-off from his own country of birth?

Defend,

You're taking it the wrong way; I was appreciating you for sharing the OBN English program. At this juncture, I wouldn't make bad comment to further the division among us. There is time for everything!

BTW, I posted a hilarious quote of Ermias 360 today! That was funny to me.

Abiy challenges Ermias; I seriously feel sure, they need each other to thrive in their respective roles.

Cheers!
