Genocide fears after Ethiopian PM vows to crush ‘weeds’ of Tigray (The Times)

Post by sarcasm » 19 Jul 2021, 16:25

Ethiopia’s prime minister has vowed to wipe out the “cancer” of a rebel group in war-torn Tigray, prompting fears of genocide in a conflict that has raged since last November.

Abiy Ahmed, 44, used word such as “weeds”, “cancer” and “disease” to describe the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), which once ruled Ethiopia but was designated a terrorist organisation by Abiy’s government in May.

“We work to remove the weeds. When we remove the weed, we take care of the wheat, we will not hurt the wheat. The weed is being removed from our country,” the prime minister said yesterday.

Abiy’s statements come after rebels in Tigray claimed a series of battlefield gains in recent weeks, including the recapture of the regional capital of Mekelle.

He's dangerously pushing the envelope - the legal risk is too serious and it is not his wish to risk facing legal action yet he seems to feel that in using such language, he keeps the mob on his side.

Let's see how long he keeps this game of throwing red meat to his base while keeping legal trouble at bay.

But then it could be that he doesn't see the legal repercussions. This is according to his own ambassador who claimed this in a leaked zoom meeting not long ago.

Ethiopia has hit rock bottom with Abiy, I don't think it will ever have a worse leader ever. Abiy has been promoted to a level of his own incompetence as they say in Peter's Principle.

Nowadays, most companies get their communications reviewed by legal or communications experts before they are issued, but Abiy is a kind of leader who declares war at midnight on Facebook. Such genocidal leaders normally cause a lot of havoc before they are stopped. It is sad that people around him are allowing him do what he is doing.

One has to blame TPLF for that. They made sure no competent leader joins and stays inside EPRDF aka Prosperity Party. This is at the heart of the leadership crisis. All the smart Ethiopians are outside EPRDF or Prosperity Party. TPLF did this to serve itself but in the process created a situation where Ethiopia is now led by the least educated, least skilled and least experienced leadership at all levels in all areas. All these leaders were not exposed to decision making. They got decisions made for them by TPLF for decades. The result is what we see today. They are not tested leaders today deciding the fate of over 100 millions souls.

They have the state machinery but TPLF that's no longer a state actor is using it's half a century combined experience in every field to easily destabilize them. This is the weirdest situation. It would be entertaining if it wasn't for deaths and suffering to the common man.

I don't think anyone can blame TPLF for Abiy's premiership. They have tried everything they can to stop him. Remember Aboy Sebhat's "America does not elect our leader" tirade. Yamamoto's State Department pushed Hailemariam to resign and insisted on an Oromo PM to appease Jawars & Kerro Co. The elected Oromo leader gave up his power to Abiy whose only redeeming features are that he is Oromo and an MP. The rest is history. Demeke or Shiferaw Shegute could have done a great job as continuity PM. But to everyone's dismay, they were not Oromos.

The white press-titute fascists are playing games, otherwise the message is clear. If you're innocent & not a cancer to society, then you got nothing to fear. Do the brits in the Times, need a lesson in the English language?

Why the TPLF is to blame is that during the 27 years in power, they failed to produce competent leaders within EPRDF and strength institutions that could be immune from immatured individuals the likes of Dr. Zinabu. Had we have a strong legal institution and parliament, Zinabu couldn't overcome the checks and balance and commit heinous crimes both in Tigray and other parts of the country (i.e. extrajudicial killing of Amanuel Wondimu in Dembidolo and other countless crimes including genocide against Amharas and the complete destruction of cities by oromuma, Shashemene and Ataye to name a few).

The Times: what did PM Abiy say in his speech?

eden/Sarcasm: Hold on, let me smoke my weed first.

The Times: He called you weed?

eden/Sarcasm: yeah, among many other things.
