Ethiopians and Ethiopiawinet are no doubt the undisputed winners in this election. This election/struggle is more of between Ethiopians and foreign powers who want to have political and economic influence/control on Ethiopia like they did for the past decades where they had unfettered access to the lives of Ethiopians with the help of none other than TPLF mercenaries. In that regard Ethiopians made a choice, whoever that choice might be, so they won over/versus somebody else making the choice on their behave. Now, there is/ and there will always be vote irregularities here and there, remember, the ruling prosperity party is not clean from bandas’, individuals with some selfish egos and remnants of TPFL sympathizers. Hence these groups will always attempt to disrupt the democratization process.
But then let’s see some specifics- who as a political/ideological group won in this election? Prosperity Party is one on the forefront: against all odds they went on and made it possible for this election to happen. I don’t know how many seat they won and what not, but they pulled the country through against all their adversaries. To me that is real strength. They have saved the country from becoming 85+ countries. Despite all the masked western powers agenda, crocodile tears and noises they (the forces of change part of PP) have engraved their name in Ethiopian history.
Who else is the winner? Of course EZEMA is a huge winner here. I remember, at the height of Weyane- Jawarian collision to dismantle Ethiopia, Dr. Berhanu Nega saying “we don’t have the luxury to play intrigue, politics and conduct a perfectly debated election, we need to save/have a country first then we will play the politics later” (or something to that effect)-he was referring to the election at the time. If I am not mistaken they just did that. They played a vital and crucial role in transforming the country’s political atmosphere from that chaotic ethnic based opposition model to a relatively more civilized model. So to me, whichever way the election result goes, they are the big winner and I strongly believe that they have set the stage for themselves to be a huge force/potential for the coming elections.
Losers? - It is not the time to talk about losers now except mention them in a nut shell: This election is synonymous to a yellow traffic light for ethnic based political parties. It is inevitable after a yellow light there will be a red light. One can’t just make a livelihood for oneself out of people’s misery in the 21st century by just forming ethnic “X” party, ethnic “Y” party... and doing nothing to alleviate any of the multitudes of problems that each ethnic group has. So my advice to the ethnic politics “ነጋዴዎች” is to go and do something else before it is too late. Each second, minute, hour and days passing, you are getting closer to your career grave.
Exceptionally big losers need to be mentioned here though; can I call them “losers in the driver seat”?
These are extremist Oromumas’, most of them leaving in the western world preaching the failed ethnic based politics to the people back in their country of birth and some within PP itself, with no specific set program for their people than being distractive force. Instead of working to pull the poor Oromo people out of poverty while they are in the leadership position of the country (in the “driver seat”), they are begging foreign powers to interfere in their own government affairs. This defies all and any logic I have ever known in my entire life!!! Honestly, I don’t get it!

Re: Ethiopian: Election 2013 Winners, Losers and exceptionally big losers
I have no any clue how the election result will turn out to be. Your observation is right on the mark : those who struggled to save the country from disintegration won big.

SAm Ebalalehu,
Me neither, have no idea if they wil even win, however for the first time in about 20 somerhing years, with all the challenges, i feel like Ethiopia is in good hands compared to that TPLF hooligans and mercnaries era.

Some people asked “what about Weyanie, where is weyanie in all this? Are they losers?”
Well, weyanie is not part of the game. If you are not in the game, you don’t win or lose, you can only be spectator begging the entire world to destroy their supposed to be country after they miserably failed to do so on their own (so far in vain). But in weyanie’s case they are irrelevant now because they have already lost a while ago in Ethiopians affair.
When you are super stupid like weyanie, with in a span of just 3 years, you will be thrown from a palace to a cave, that is if you are lucky like Getachew Reda or ENDF will make a hole in your forehead like Syum Mesfin and Abay Tsehaye….
