(Reuters) - Ethiopia on Monday launched a tendering process for the proposed sell-off of a 40% stake in state-owned carrier Ethio Telecom to private investors, part of the government's broader plan to open up the Horn of Africa country's economy.
Interested investors can now submit so called expressions of interest (EOI), the first of a series of stages that will lead to picking of a successful bidder, Zinabu Yirga, Deputy Director of Public Enterprises Holding and Administration Agency told a press conference in the capital Addis Ababa.

Come on eden! The sell-off of the 40% stake at Ethio Telecom was decided and a committee was established more than 2 years before the start of the war. The liberalization and privatization of state companies is part of the government's economic plan. This is not new.eden wrote: ↑15 Jun 2021, 16:51(Reuters) - Ethiopia on Monday launched a tendering process for the proposed sell-off of a 40% stake in state-owned carrier Ethio Telecom to private investors, part of the government's broader plan to open up the Horn of Africa country's economy.

Re: PM Abiy selling state enterprises as cost of war goes off the charts & foreign funding dries up due to sanctions
TPLF transferred everything the country owned to its ethnic kin and, sold whatever is left off to its foreign comrades for pennies. Even the fertile plains of Gambella, Benshangul and Afar were not spared. Now that ill gotten fund is employed in buying lobbyists to try everything under the sun to resuscitate the dead junta. The country's resources which could have pulled millions outta poverty is squandered, sadly.
What is left in the hands of the public ownership is a few mega companies which have been thought as "milking Cow" by the same junta. The sell of these companies were only deferred until such a time comes when TPLF was ready to declare its independence. Their over inflated ego and overly aggrandized self image gotten the best of them. Now they are running from cave to cave and their supporters endlessly begging the Ferenjis to return them back to their lost glory.
As of yet, there is no sanction except the sanction on those who have been habitually travelling to the far end of the world when their wives are hit by flue or needing hip replacement as in the case of the Nega family. This is a good sanction!!
Transferring some part of those mega companies to private ownership, if done properly, would only bring immense benefit to the country and its citizens. It is now Tele and next will hopefully be the ETA.
The war on terror will be funded and supported by all citizens for the TPLF evil has to be buried a thousand feet under.

I agree with you sister eden. The only way out of this mess is by bringing TPLF back to power.. Once the mighty TPLF are set free from their hiding caves, I am sure Ethiopia will have great time as it used to have for 27 years of honeymoon. Let setting the cave residents free start with Seyoum Mesfun and Abay Tsehayeeden wrote: ↑15 Jun 2021, 16:51(Reuters) - Ethiopia on Monday launched a tendering process for the proposed sell-off of a 40% stake in state-owned carrier Ethio Telecom to private investors, part of the government's broader plan to open up the Horn of Africa country's economy.

By the way, Sekture would have articulated your claim better than everybody

I'm against selling government property to private investors with out a good strategy in general. I hope they put a close where they can buy back the share(as a majority share holder) if the arrangement does not work out.
The last time I remember, PM Zenawi sold Oromo land for a peanut.
PM Zenawi sold one hectare Oromo land for 2 dollar to Indian crooks. As we all know, that eventually led to the Oromo apprising that toppled Woyane and the rest is history.
