Tigrayans have suffered a huge loss. On November 2, 2020, the TPLF was in power in Mekele and Tigrayans had an exalted view of themselves as makers and shakers not only on Ethiopian, but also global, affairs.
The next day, they launched a putsch which they expected would lead them to seat of power in Arat Kilo. Within three weeks, the TPLF was defeated, Tigray lost all the lands it stole from its neighbours, Badme was back in the hands of its owners, and the TPLF leadership and thousands of its members fled from Mekele to rat-holes in Temben. By any measure, this was a catastrophe of biblical proportions. Had such a loss came gradually, such as that suffered by the Derg, it might have been bearable. But it happened so fast, that most Tigrayans are to this day unable to accept that it happened. For the past 5 months, Tigrayans have been in absolute denial. They not only believe that they have a fighting force which they call the TDF, they also believe this force is fighting and scoring major victories. By delaying the acceptance of their defeat and engaging in a monumental self-deception, they are compounding the consequences of their loss ten times. Sooner or later, they will wake-up to their realities. What will happen to their destroyed egos is unpredictable since rarely, if ever, has the world seen a low IQ people like Tigrayans who believe their own lies.
The damage to the Tigrayan psyche will be felt for a long time to come. I am afraid that the current generation is a wipe-out.
