According to the ethiopian news coverage today (ETV), turkey and ethiopia signed a trade deal of 1 BILLION US dollars between the 2 countries.

Trade is a good beginning. It can usher in a new era of military cooperation. Although Turkey and Egypt are having some low level intelligence collaboration yet their are still rivals. This can work in favour of Ethiopia. I don't agree with " it has no military intent " assessement of gearhead.

kerrenite...1 billion is 1 major construction project (rail) plus activities in SME. It really isnt much! As I said, most of the ground work happened during HMDs optimistic era, way before the amhara gurage mad house went loose. I doubt if much of it will happen.

ABE...hmmm! I guess all things are possible! I havent seen the actual document. I know HMDs focus was on other things than arms, predominantly rail for west south portions of ethiopia. Trade could mean trade in arms too but there is nothing that insinuates that in the news. You would think some form of military presence during the signing.
