ኪሎ የማይደፋ ነገር ገበያ ከወጣ...ጉራጌ አለበት!! ጭድ ማጎር ማን ብሏቸው:: Territorial history that is not peer reviewed or cant stand in court should have a disclaimer. Meanwhile, a book review by a reputable archaeologist and historian presented in an audio visual format might will do until court cases in the near future

BARARA / Addis Ababa the Royal City of 15th & Early 16th C. Ethiopia

BARARA / Addis Ababa

Professor Marco Vigano

Published on Jun 22, 2014
Thirty hectares of medieval ruins, with an amazing pentagonal citadel surrounded by twelve protruding towers. The biggest archaeological discovery in Ethiopia since many years.
Is this Barara, the Capital of Abyssinia of the XV and early XVI century, visited by many,
artists, traders, from Aragon, Turkey and above all Venice?
The missing link between early Christian Ethiopia and the Gondar Castles, the main siege of a trade power based on contact with the sea ports, controlled by Islamic states.
There, the source of its power and destruction, well exemplified in its standing ruins,
at the hand of Ahmed ibn Ibrahim al Ghazi, the “left handed”, in 1530 AD.

Sequel to the “Pentagonal fortress and Town” Youtube video we used to break news on the findings of a medieval capital of Ethiopia up the Entoto ridge, Addis Ababa.
This video relates the find to the Fra Mauro Map, and documents some of the unexpected structures uncovered.

The surprise find of a medieval fortress just up from Addis Ababa University, A major one, with twelve towers, loopholes, deep and wide trenches, inner structures. In the context of a whole complex town, easily datable to the XV and the very first years of the XVI centuries, as the consequent decline of Ethiopia and occupation by mainly nomadic Oromos exclude any other more recent origin.
Rock hewn churches, steps, palace bases, and a spring cut in the rock. Ornate stones of all sorts, including an unseen feline head protruding an horrible tongue. Paved roads and wall sided alleys, a residence of Royal standing and dozens and dozens of stones structures. A capital city of Abyssinia, re-discovered, after Minilik claimed discovery in 1881. Re-lost and long forgotten, covered in moss and bush. The missing link between the South expansion of Christianity at the slow fall of Axum and the Gondar Castles. The centre of a developed area Europeans respected as the fief of a mythic alley King, Prester John. Is this, then Barara, the quasi mythical Capital of Abassia or Abyssinia known to European medieval trevellers?[/color]

Addis and all vicinities surroundings can't hide their Neftegna origins. This one in Menagesha is the oldest botanic park in africa founded by emperor Zera Yacob in the 14th century.

Mount Menagesha, Mount Entoto, Mount Yerer and mount Ziquala are the four mountains addis ababa is surrounded. These mountains have monasteries that date back to 1000 years. Barara settlers were Amharas, Gurages and the now extinct Gafats (possibly currently tulama Oromos who were assimilated by pagan Gallas)

The story of Berera whether it is fiction or fact, I am just curious why we were not told by Amaroch about this all these years? In the expansion of Amharas and Oromos many towns, villages and national identities vanished as a result. What goes around comes around so does knock on their door and they felt the heat now and compelled to tell us history/story that we have never heard.

Well Both Mengistu and Hailesillassie thought that state formation is over and during those governments "Ethiopianism" is advocated more than tribalist ajenda. Even in the school systems where curriculum was created the paint burshed the Oromo Invasions as "Oromo Migration". They did that considering the Oromo contribution to the Ethiopian state and not to upset them by making them feel that they are recent migrants. They were right and they both gave emphasis on Ethiopia and Ethiopianity than being Amhara or Oromuma despite both having mixed heritages

As to Menilik, he was aware that Addis was the land his forfathers made a seat of their governments. By the way Addis was re-instated by Meniliks grand father in 1816 and the churchs in Entoto and Yeka Mikael were intact. So Minilik from Ankobar (Short distance) had a full understanding that the area was his domain when he controlled it. He reportedly have said "I finally got the capital and the land where my forefathers used to govern".. .something of that nature
