This is very interesting question. In my view, in this puzzle, there is a big power play. During the tplf period, obviously, tplf wanted to control anything Beneshangul. Now, in Abiy's time, gaIIas have great interest to control Beneshangul and the hippopotamus Aba dulla is said to be behind the plan of "greater oromia" of olf/opdo, same way as the miserably failed " greater Tigray " of tplf. Abiy is a shrewd anti-amhara person who has never cared for the massacre of amharas.

Mind you, when he decided to fight tplf, he has never fought the system. He was just fighting the individuals who appeared to be a threat to to his power. He sings Ethiopia while his crew is heavily engaged in the grand plan of gaIIa expansion and invasion. We have got a capable national army to stop this and even the Amhara special force could do that (being (or supposed to be) the one concerned primary) could do that. Unless Olf/opdo has a green light from Abiy, how on earth this much crimes are committed perpetually in a country who is supposed to have a leader ? Why do you think gaIIas are crying on the repossession of wolkayt even more than tplf cadres ?? Wolkyt is a take off platform to attack gaIIas if one day gaIIas controls Beneshangul.

For over two years now, the security situation in Benishangul Gumuz region of Ethiopia, especially in Metekel, continues to be a nightmare. And the victims are ethnic Amhara and ethnic Agaw — the very people who have lived for ages as part of the people in the region. Well over 200 people are believed to have been killed since September 2020.

Apart from failure to enforce the rule of law and protect the security of citizens, the government is criticized for not calling the series of attacks for what they are — ethnic cleansing against Amhara and Agaw in the region. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed was in Metekel, a zone of Benishangul Gumuz region, on Tuesday, where recurring massacres took place. He described the situation as mere “security problem.”

The attackers are often described as unidentified individuals or groups or mercenaries of Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF). Yet, the government, both at the regional and Federal , admitted that Benishangul Gumuz regional authorities including in the security apparatus were involved in facilitating multiples of massacres over the past two and half years.
