Although there's no a commonly agreed definition for religion, as what one calls a religion might not necessarily be a religion at all for another, religion is not the one to blame (in the video above) but the con men who are using religion as their tool to unscrupulously extort money from desperate people, taking advantage of their desperation.

You could say that Africa is still lagging far behind the modern world, but such a practice is not exclusive in Africa, since Western Europeans used to torture and burn their witches in public.
