The threat doesn't come from the neighboring countries but from Arab countries that are inimical to Ethiopian interest. Any neighboring country if and when it becomes a base to Ethiopia enemies, Ethiopia should take whatever action needed to neutralize it. Any Ethiopian or Eritrean for that matter who are talking about unity between the two nations must get checked thier il ingegno (brain). Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it. What upsets me and others is, Eritreans want to landlock Ethiopia & keep Eritrea for themselves but, want to share the rest of Ethiopia with us.

If the people chose to federate with another country, it's up to them.
But you have raised a question that's not new. This question has been raised by ELF(Jebha).
Which is Islamization of Eritrea, the horn in general, simply put.
Although I am not sure why Eritrea would consider a federation with Djibouti.

The legit question for access to sea is lingering for a reason.
If we are to live in peace, there should be no lingering animosity between the two countries.
But not Eritrea is trying to hold Ethiopia hostage.
The question of Asab was never answered. If you think you have the final say, you are wrong.

Look how much Djibouti a country of one million people was able to benefit multi-billion dollars from Ethiopia, while the Eritrean economy crumbled. So a good economical relationship benefits both but it going to benefit Eritrea more. Ethiopia should be militarily very strong to project its power. The threat doesn't come from the neighboring countries but from Arab countries that are inimical to Ethiopian interest. Any neighboring country if and when it becomes a base to Ethiopia enemies, Ethiopia should take whatever action needed to neutralize it. Any Ethiopian or Eritrean for that matter who are talking about unity between the two nations must get checked thier il ingegno (brain). Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Had the Haileselass government had taken one of the three options that were offered by UN --a guaranteed ownership of its Asseb port, leaving the rest of Eritrea to its own devices, we would have lived in a much different world today -- both Ethiopans and Eritreans.

I have to make one qualification though , Ethiopia has to make sure that Eritrea's security is protected . And if and when the Eritrean security is threated by exteranl forces Ethiopia should stand with the brotherly country of Eritrea. The same with Tamerat Negere; you hardly ever find a Gondere/Amhara slanting Eritreans. That's a fact! A Gondere probably complain about Shoa this & that before they say a word about Eritrea. That's at least is my experience!

What upsets me and others is, Eritreans want to landlock Ethiopia & keep Eritrea for themselves but, want to share the rest of Ethiopia with us.

On the other hand, Isaias is known to be blunt; so if he says we're one he means it. Don't hate him because he's blunt.

Further more, he's related to Atse Yohannes not just that, also knows, under the circumstances of the family feud, Eritrea couldn't and can't in the future end up like Singapore because Ethiopia is not Malesia like. We're too close of family and on top of that vindictive people. Ethiopians, particularly the Tigray Mafia led group won't allow Eritrea to have peace separately; they'll be breathing in their neck. Then, how are you going to develop expensive input industry like Mining/Oil? Who is going to invest in such an environment?

How long is it going to take for you people to get that through your thick heads?

Having said that, Abiy/Isaias should turn their relationship to Unity ASAP; at least bring it back to the old Federation level. That shall build initial trust among all people; calm the extremists of both sides, a necessity for growth & development.
