Danakali appoints Aggreko as preferred power contractor for Colluli Potash Project

Aggreko will provide full scope of support services for the supply, commissioning, and maintenance of the power plant.

Colluli is 100%-owned by the Colluli Mining Share Company, a 50:50 JV between Danakali and the Eritrean National Mining Corporation

Danakali Ltd’s (ASX:DNK) (LON:DNK) Colluli Mining Share Company (CMSC) has appointed Aggreko PLC https://www.proactiveinvestors.co.uk/LON:AGK/Aggreko/ (LON:AGK) as preferred power supply contractor for the 12MW thermal heavy fuel oil (HFO) power plant at Colluli Potash Project in Eritrea, East Africa.

Aggreko https://www.proactiveinvestors.co.uk/LON:AGK/Aggreko/ will provide full scope of support services for the supply, commissioning and maintenance of the power plant, then transfer to CMSC, under a five-year buy-own-operate-transfer contract.

The supplier will also provide the funding for the power solution, which provides certainty over the delivery of this preferred solution.

Single power provider

Danakali chief executive officer Niels Wage said:
With 55 years of experience in delivering high-quality, reliable service to a large number of projects we are confident they (Aggreko) have the capabilities to provide our power needs for Colluli.
At the early stages of the project development, the HFO solution will provide us with flexibility and reliability, and as confirmed by SEIA, Colluli will have a relatively small impact on the environment.

Going forward, once project development is in more of a steady-state, we will look to diversify our energy sources towards renewables available in the Danakil region, as per our commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions.
Power scaleable

The costs of the power solution provided by Aggreko over the five-year contract period is lower than the FEED study results.

This power solution is scalable and can increase or decrease according to CMSC’s needs.

The agreement is subject to:

➢ The conclusion of ongoing negotiations to optimise the scope of works, contract pricing and execution; and

➢ Board approval of the final investment decision.

Delivering complex power plant solutions

Aggreko has nearly 60 years of experience in delivering complex power plant solutions to projects in challenging locations.

They are world-leading providers of mobile, modular, temperature control and energy services.

The company provides short-term hire and longer-term power solutions to a diversified customer base in mining, oil & gas, utilities, petrochemicals & refining.

It operates in around 100 countries around the world, of which 35 are in the African continent, including providing off-grid power solution to a mining company in Eritrea since 2012.

Colluli project

Colluli is 100%-owned by CMSC, a 50:50 joint venture between Danakali and the Eritrean National Mining Corporation (ENAMCO).

The Colluli project is in the Danakil Depression region of Eritrea and around 75 kilometres from the Red Sea coast, making it one of the most accessible potash deposits globally.

CMSC appoints Aggreko as power supply contractor for Colluli plant

8th October 2020

BY: TASNEEM BULBULIA- CREAMER MEDIA REPORTER

https://m.miningweekly.com/article/cmsc ... ep_id:3861

Dual-listed Danakali has announced that Colluli Mining Share Company (CMSC) has appointed Aggreko as its preferred power supply contractor for a 12 MW heavy fuel oil (HFO) power plant at the Colluli sulphate of potash project in Eritrea.

A 12.36 MW thermal HFO solution was chosen as the most effective option for Module 1.

Aggreko will provide the funding for the power solution, which Danakali says provides certainty over the delivery of this preferred solution.

Aggreko will also provide the full scope of support services for the supply, commissioning and maintenance of the power plant and then transfer it to CMSC.

The costs of the power solution provided by Aggreko over the five-year contract period is lower than those set out in the front-end engineering design study, Danakali points out.

The agreement with Aggreko is subject to the conclusion of ongoing negotiations to optimise the scope of works, contract pricing and execution; and board approval of the final investment decision.
We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Aggreko as our single power provider. With 55 years of experience in delivering high-quality, reliable service to a large number of projects we are confident they have the capabilities to provide our power needs for Colluli.
At the early stages of the project development, the HFO solution will provide us with flexibility and reliability, and as confirmed by the Solar Energy Industries Association, Colluli will have a relatively small impact on the environment.

Going forward, once project development is in more of a steady state, we will look to diversify our energy sources towards renewables available in the Danakil region, as per our commitment to sustainable and environment-friendly solutions,
says Danakali CEO Niels Wage.

Aggreko signs solar-diesel power deal in Eritrea

Danakali selects Aggreko to power Colluli

https://www.miningmagazine.com/country/eritrea

Australian potash producer Danakali has contracted British energy services firm Aggreko to set up a 12 MegaWatt heavy fuel oil (HFO) power plant at its Colluli sulphate of potash mine project in Eritrea.

Danakali’s Colluli potash project is located in Eritrea within the Danakil Depression, an emerging potash province that traverses parts of both Eritrea and Ethiopia

Dual-listed potash developer Danakali, through the Colluli Mining Share Company has appointed Aggreko as its preferred power supply contractor for its 12 MW heavy fuel oil power plant at the Colluli potash project in Eritrea.

Aggreko will provide full scope of support services for the supply, commissioning, and maintenance of the power plant, then transfer to Colluli Mining Share Company, under five-year Buy Own Operate Transfer, or BOOT contract.

Moreover, Aggreko https://www.miningreview.com/energy/min ... solutions/ will provide the funding for the power solution which provides certainty over delivery of this preferred solution.

According to Aggreko Africa MD John Lewis, Aggreko has extensive experience in Eritrea and knowledge of the local market making it ideally placed to provide a solution that meets the specific needs of Danakali and deliver a reliable power supply for this project.

The agreement is a BOOT contract, as the equipment is available now and does not need to be built, and de-risks the project development schedule. The equipment can therefore be mobilised at short notice as required during the development of the project.

The costs of the power solution provided by Aggreko https://www.aggreko.com/en-za/sectors-a ... ces/mining over the five-year contract period is lower than the FEED study results. Aggreko is funding the capex required for the power plant an all equipment will be transferred to CMSC at no extra cost at the end of the contract period. This power solution is scalable and can increase/decrease according to CMSC’s needs.

The agreement with Aggreko is subject to the conclusion of ongoing negotiations to optimise the scope of works, contract pricing and execution; and board approval of the final investment decision.
With 55 years of experience in delivering high-quality, reliable service to a large number of projects we are very pleased to appoint Aggreko as our single power provider and are confident they have the capabilities to provide our power needs for Colluli,
says Danakali CEO Niels Wage.
At the early stages of the project development, the HFO solution will provide us with flexibility and reliability, and as confirmed by the social and environmental impact assessment, Colluli will have a relatively small impact on the environment. Going forward, once project development is in more of a steady state we will look to diversify our energy sources towards renewables available in the Danakil region, as per our commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions,

Wage notes.

Colluli at a glance

The Colluli project is located in the Danakil Depression region of Eritrea, East Africa, and is ~75km from the Red Sea coast, making it one of the most accessible potash deposits globally.

The company has completed a front-end engineering design for the production of potassium sulphate, otherwise known as sulphate of potash or SOP. SOP is a chloride free, specialty fertiliser, which carries a substantial price premium relative to the more common potash type; potassium chloride (or MOP).

A binding take-or-pay offtake agreement has been confirmed with EuroChem for up to 100% (minimum 87%) of Colluli Module I SOP production.

Development Finance Institutions, Africa Finance Corporation and African Export Import Bank (Afreximbank), have obtained formal credit approval to provide CMSC with US$200 million in senior debt finance. The credit documentation was executed in December 2019, allowing drawdown of CMSC senior debt on satisfaction of customary conditions precedent.

This represents the majority of funding required for the development and construction of the Colluli. AFC has also executed a subscription agreement to make a US$50 million strategic equity investment in Danakali. The receipt of the first tranche of US$21.5 million allowed commencement of the development.

Project execution has commenced, and SOP production is expected during 2022.

The company’s vision is to bring Colluli into production using the principles of risk management, resource utilisation and modularity, using the starting module (Module I) as a growth platform to develop the resource to its full potential.

Danakali CEO Niels Wage speaks to Mining Review Africa Senior Deputy Editor Chantelle Kotze about how its Colluli potash project, which will soon enter the construction phase, will become a strategic future supplier of premium, high-value sulphate of potash.

Aggreko Africa MD John Lewis unpacks how Aggreko is delivering long-term solutions to give mines the most efficient operations and help them overcome geographical and infrastructural challenges.

Abraham Afewerki, was born on the 30th January, 1966 in Asmara, Eritrea. At the age of 12 he joined the EPLF, as a member of a cultural troupe & later on he moved to Italy, where he learned how to play various instruments & continued to write songs in the theme of Eritrean nationalism.

In 1991, Abraham Afewerki, released his first album-Wegahta (Sunrise); which was essentially celebrating the new ‘Wegahta’ in independent Eritrea.

His songs were popular, because his lyrics expressed strong and poetic images of Eritrea’s culture. His song "Abzelena Alina" ("Wherever We Are"), became greatly popular in Eritrea. His socially conscious words and evocative lyrics, talked of the bravery of the nation.

Abraham continued to blend his music with jazz, R&B, and Reggae rhytms, at the same time maintaining his music’s originality and authenticity. One song from the album, “Semay Iyu Deretry” (“Sky is My Limit”), has become one of the popular songs in Eritrea; especially amongst the 2006 students in Sawa. Through the song, Abraham was able to express his message of encouragement to the Eritrean youth to be hopeful & optimistic for the future.

Happily, that is how she lives!

By Asmait Futsumbrhan

October 7, 2020

Born with genetic abnormalities in 1983, Tsegereda Debrom had to face life with her impairment. This strong Eritrean grew up in a family, that made her feel she wasn’t different from anyone else and that she could do anything in her life.

Tsegereda, an agronomist by training, paints, plays sports and does all kinds of house chores using her feet. Here is a translation of an excerpt of a short conversation she had, with Eri-TV.

I have never felt, like I am different from anyone else

Growing up, I remember my family spoiling me extensively; especially my father. I don’t think I can ever have enough words to describe, how well my father took care of me. I have never felt that I was less than my siblings or anyone else for that matter, except at those times when I saw the reaction of guests who came to visit us at home. My father knew me well, and fully understood my thoughts and ideas. And if there is anything I learned from my mother, it was ‘hope’. I grew up knowing that I could do anything, I put my mind to. I remember that my father had to go visit many schools to enroll me, but they rejected me.

Through his determination though, he was finally able to enroll me. Of course, that didn’t mean the challenges were over. Everyone was wondering, how I was going to cope with the demands of the school work. I was born with impairment in my hands, so people wondered how I was going to be able to write. However, with God’s help, I was able to use my feet like my hands.

Sawa, a place where I made friends and made my way to college.

Of course, there were difficulties I had to go through but Sawa is the place where I had a good experience and a good time. Most of all, there, I got to meet people from across the country and shared experiences and culture. What made me happy, was making lifetime friends in Sawa. Those people cared for me and supported me in ways, that I couldn’t even begin to imagine. I didn’t only get support from the students, but from the superintendents as well. I don’t remember all their names, but I am forever grateful. I know, that can’t be the only reason I was in Sawa. I was there to continue my education and take the Matriculation Exam, which I passed to study for a diploma in college. After first going to the Eritrean Institute of Technology and Science, I joined the Hamelmalo College of Agriculture; where I got my diploma from the Agronomy Department. After graduation, I was assigned to the Ministry of Agriculture where I worked for a year.

I was inspired by Yemane, a guy who painted with his mouth!

There was a program on TV about Yemane, who painted with his mouth. Watching it, got me thinking why I can’t paint with my feet as I do all my activities with them. Then I went ahead and joined Satreb and Segen Art schools and took courses on painting. I honestly can’t say that I have made a lot of progress, especially considering how long it has been since I started painting. But all the same, I love to paint. I live at a small family house, and I am not always able to paint freely but I don’t let that prevent me from painting.

Injera is the only thing, I don’t make at home!

Every one of us needs help sometimes, and there are times when I need help to do certain things. I try to participate in almost all the daily chores at home, washing clothes, making and serving coffee, cooking, cleaning the house and running errands. I just can’t sit and look at people, nothing. Whatever they are doing, I can do with my feet. I sometimes think that if people help me figure out ways, I want to ride a bike and may be drive. The only thing that’s a challenge for me is making Injera, using the traditional oven.

There is something, I want to remind you about!

When I look at people without disability struggling and doing nothing in their lives, I wonder why they can’t use their time and try to discover their talents. I was inspired by someone I saw on TV and that is why I’m doing this interview, to motivate people to do something in their lives. To show people, that people with disabilities can do anything they put their minds to and achieve their goals.

The European Parliament adopted an intrusive & vitriolic "Resolution" on Eritrea in its session, yesterday. The outlandish content & tone of the Resolution betrays apparent frustration stemming from utter failure of the "regime change" policies that it has pursued, in past 20 years.

What is more galling is its temerity & illusion to dictate offensive terms/conditions, on sovereign countries. This is all the while, as it is endlessly whingeing on presumed "cyber-attacks" & "interferences in the internal affairs of its Member States" by other powerful countries

Eritreans were the first people to congratulate the Tigray-born athlete Letesenbet Gidey on her big win in the women's 5K race while breaking world record in the process. However, the minute the Eritrean international football star Alexander Isak scores a goal and wins a match, the uncivilized agame Awash is quick to show his evil heart burning with jealousy, in a behavior consistent with Agame's nature.

Do the Tigray people really need to be represented by the Adwa agame Awash at Mereja Forum? :P :P

The legendary Abraham Afewerki, created 5 timeless albums!

1991: Wegahta (Sunrise)
1994: Tesfa'iya snqey (Hope is my supply/kit)
1988: MsTir fQri (Secret of Love)
2000: Hadera (Promise)
2006: Semai (Sky)

Abraham Afewerki (1966–2006) 🙏
