Eritrean farmers are happy, this year!

Post by Zmeselo » 06 Oct 2020, 08:45

Subsidized/low cost tractor & other timely technical services provided by the Ministry of Agriculture to supplant others have been crucial in current crop situation - mainly sorghum, oil seeds & millet - in the Tesseney Sub-Region this year although the rains were late initially.

Athletics | Nancy half marathon

Victorious of the Grand Nancy half-marathon, The Moselle international demonstrated his class on a windswept course and in a race led by Félix Bour. His time of 1 h 03:38 commands admiration. Among the ladies, the Eritrean Mekdes Woldu was too strong.

The Sarregueminois Yann Schrub and the Eritrean Mekdes Woldu won this Sunday morning the thirteenth Nancy half-marathon which took place in good conditions despite the headwind in the first half of the course. The Mosellan made an effort to catch up with Felix Bour (3rd in 1:04:43) who started out ahead after the tenth kilometer and to outrun everyone on the train at a remarkable pace in an excellent time of 1h 03:38. Emmanuel Rouddolf-Levisse, French cross champion in Vittel, finished second (1 h 04''08).

Among the women, victory for the Eritrean Mekdes Woldu in the excellent time of 1 h 13''54.

Note the excellent sixth place for Emilie-Jacquot-Claude in 1 h 18:05 (her record).

Sovereign Mekdes Woldu

We will wait only ten short minutes to see the first woman arrive in this half-marathon. Mekdes Woldu, a little flea, light as a feather, with a touching smile, raised on the plateau of Eritrea, political refugee and made redundant in Franconville.

Victorious of the famous classic “La Parisienne” in 2019, Woldu quickly let go of the Ethiopian Meseret Gezahegn who will finally finish third, Emeline Delanis, the athlete from Viry-Châtillon having finished much better.

This final and its last hectometers which seemed interminable for Lorraine Claude Jacquot which stumbled for… five seconds against the wall of 1h 18. Whatever! Émilie broke her record!

The arrival park had only to fill with tears, cries of joy, moans of relief, first bursts of laughter. In these difficult times, the 1569 participants had all gained something ...

Today, I paid a courtesy call to his Excellency Amb. Beyene Russom, of Eritrea 🇪🇷 residing in Nairobi & Dean of diplomatic corps in kenya at the Eritrea office in Nairobi. We discussed range of issues; including strengthening Tanzania 🇹🇿 and Eritrea relationship.
