Why is Tigray's population low? What is the fertility rate in Tigray?

Population is an important factor for development and sustaining peace in a given society. The more population a given society, the better.

Tigray's population was 5 million 30 years ago. It is now about 7 million. It should have been around 10 million if the average fertility rate in Ethiopia (4.2) is taken into consideration. Such discrepancy could be explained due to family unfriendly condition prevalent in Tigray.

The regional government should have family friendly policies such as financial support for families with children and encouraging marriages. The government should also ban prostitution. Such measures will hep increase the population in Tigray.

At the moment, we do not see any family friendly plans. Poor Tigray families struggle to feed their children. In some subdistricts, there are no schools. But there has been some measures taken to decrease maternal death rate. In general, Tigray is family and chidren friendly region

Tigray need to follow the European model like Sweden's or Germany's, where each child is supported by the state financially. For example ETH100 Birr a month should be given for each child if the family does not have sufficient income. Children are the future of society and they should be provided with basic support. This is doable and encourages families to look after their children better.
