I do not see revenge, but desperation. There is only one way to settle the difference between Ethiopia and Egypt regarding the filling up of the dam : negotiation. Any other move to intimidate Ethiopia will not work.

I totally agree with you.
This is an exercise in futility. Egypt is not capable to intimidate Ethiopia by setting up a military base in Somaliland, neither can it revenge on Somalia. Egypt would not be able to operate from Somaliland to bomb Ethiopia as this could be politically complicated and would have international repercussions for Somaliland along with Egypt.
Egypt cannot afford to rent and run a foreign military base, in the first place, as Egypt is reeling from poverty and economic suffering.

Somaliman, I agree with you totally. More importantly, your last sentence is very true.

Re: Egypt's Revenge On Somalia For Siding With Ethiopia
Now it looks like Somali land is getting the recognition it has been seeking for over 3 decades. How does that fare for the unity of Somalia is the question we all need to ask. Whether at Somali land or on Mars, Egypt could try to establish basis after basis...but that does never take the source of Abay outside of Ethiopia.
If they are to play hardball...we shall see who would blink first. The dam is now filling and aoon it will be filled 100%. It will guarantee its own safety.
It appears that there is big misunderstanding flying around ethinc extremists regarding our resolve this time around. We ain't harming anybody but trying to pull our country out of destitution. If that is something others have problems with, then we cant help but stand to defend our interest with all available means at our desposal.
Somali land is a very friendly neighbor. TpLF intentionally stayed away from developing a warm relationship with SomaliLand for fear that economic and political interests could shift south and east from north. Abiy has a chance to change the coursse of history if he were to be as recless and as greedy as Egypt and TPLF. However, if forced to, no option should be left unexplored.

It's quite the opposite! TPLF had an excellent relationship with this brainless enclave known as somaliland, even though the prime interest of TPLF was to cut Somalia into pieces to see a strong Somalia never again. PM Abiy is for a unified Somalia; thus, we don't see Somalilad delegations keep commuting between Addis and Hargeisa any longer, and I laud PM Abiy for such a courage.
Re: Egypt's Revenge On Somalia For Siding With Ethiopia
Meles Zenawi, may he rot in hell, was the best chance for Somaliland to get an international recognition. But he was already busy in annihilating Somalia, and facilitating the creation of a second one (Somaliland), for him, was a non starter with zero chances of success.
Re: Egypt's Revenge On Somalia For Siding With Ethiopia
This is a move I was not expecting from Egypt. There but honestly speaking I don't think Somaliland will go ahead and antogonise Ethiopia. Abiye Ahmed might not be pro Somaliland. Still Ethiopia is Somaliland lifeline and trade. The whole Africa should support Ethiopia on this particular issue. The Egyptians are to arrogant if you ask me in their approach with Africans.

This shift is obviously intended to intimidate Ethiopia, but this cannot intimidate Ethiopia at all, as it's an exercise in futility.
As it has already been said, above, it only shows their desperation and poor diplomacy.
This "intimidate Ethiopia" project will never go ahead for the following reasons:
1. Egypt cannot afford, as I said earlier, to rent and run a military base in a foreign country.
2. The mindless Somaliland administration wants a large amount of cash and recognition, and Egypt cannot provide either of these.
3. Somaliland cannot afford to provoke Ethiopia, even though PM Abiy has already poured cold water on their untenable dream. Trade between Ethiopia and Somaliland is insignificant and it's mostly unidirectional as it's only Somaliland that's importing negligible amount of agricultural produce, including Khat that has been exacerbating their hallucination. But any realization of their fantasy depends on Africa and without Ethiopia's support, their ambition is dead on arrival.
4. Egypt has long been the best performing puppet of the US in the Middle East, and it would be unimaginable to see the US allowing its puppet to hold a military base next to it.
5. UAE has already abandoned its plan to construct such a military base in Somaliland due to a few factors, including the fact that Somaliland is not an independent country and that no foreign country will be able to set up a base in this enclave with the permission of Somalia - this being the main reason why the UAE has ditched its plan. Putin's Russia has lately also been interested to show up in this corner of the Horn of Africa, but it has finally realized that such effort was unworkable and hopeless.

Re: Egypt's Revenge On Somalia For Siding With Ethiopia
This absolutely tells that Egypt has desperately failed in all fronts from stopping Ethiopia using Abay river.
1) Why is Egypt trying to unlawfully steal land and base from unrecognized and unlawful Somali-land ? This is a theft , because Somaliland is not conventionally a country. Anyone doing for warmongering or piracy is not a government of a sovereign country rather is a mafia group.
2) What a stupid East African country stands with Egypt letting down its other Black African brothers to destitution and hunger. That will count as grand betrayal down in history. East African countries benefits immense from the resource rich Ethiopia than Egypt that lives on the financial handouts of the U.S.
3) More importantly, if all East Africans pause a moment think in retro, the source of violence, instability, backwardness and impoverishment is Egypt. All the hundreds or thousand years Egypt never lift her eyes off East African - for the very reason to lock them up in poverty and bar them from eating the fruits of their God blessings. What has East Africans benefited any other the Egyptian dams or their tourist built on the edges of the Abay river? Nothing. We will progress and no more sticking with the regressive belief of Egypt eats only but we spectator of their food tray.
This officiates Egypt has lost the battle with Ethiopia.
Ethiopia shall triumph!

Re: Egypt's Revenge On Somalia For Siding With Ethiopia
Egypt didn't have aerial refueling capability in the not-so-distant past, and without this, Ethiopia would be simply too far from Egypt and would be beyond the combat radius of all Egyptian aircraft staging from Egyptian airfields, in case Egypt opted for a military option.
But during the recent Qader-2020 military exercise, Egyptian Air Force Dassault Rafale and MIG-29M/M2 fighter aircraft conducted buddy-buddy aerial refuelling. The Egyptian Ministry of Defence said that this was intended to demonstrate its armed forces’ capabilities, and to send a “tough message to Turkey”.
Therefore, as Egypt seems to be desperate and could resort to a desperate action, opting to bomb the dam, I'm of the opinion that Ethiopia gets prepared for any eventualities of this nature, not to be hit off guard.
And don't forget, Gamal Abdel Nasser used to say that Egypt would occupy Ethiopia within 24 hours if Ethiopia ever did anything that could undermine Egypt's freshwater needs. Of course, the Egypt of today is not capable to concretize such bravado!

Egypt has been desperately trying everything, including dispatching a plane packed with a cache of weapons of two thousand Kalashnikovs, rocket launchers, sniper rifles, pistols and mortars to Somalia just a month ago. But Somali sent it back "because of fears in Mogadishu of Somalia being publicly drawn into a growing row between Ethiopia and Egypt".
Guess what! Somaliland was decrying Egypt’s supplies of weapons to Somalia!
This was just a month ago!

"If Egypt launched strikes against the dam, what long term advantage would it gain?"
"Even if that strike was highly destructive, Ethiopia would just start building another dam on the Blue Nile. Then in ten years, Egypt would face the same problem but this time it would not be consulted at all,” says William Davidson, Senior Analyst at the International Crisis Group, an NGO based in Brussels."

Ethiopia denies filling contested Nile dam!
"Ethiopia's water minister denied that his country has started filling up Africa's largest dam on Wednesday, a day after talks with Sudan and Egypt on the issue came to a deadlock."

"Ethiopia and Egypt reach ‘major common understanding’ on massive Nile River dam"!
Ethiopia has said the rising water is from heavy rains, and the new statement said that “it has become evident over the past two weeks in the rainy season that the (dam’s) first-year filling is achieved and the dam under construction is already overtopping.”
Ethiopia has said it would begin filling the reservoir of the dam, Africa’s largest, this month even without a deal as the rainy season floods the Blue Nile. But the new statement says the three countries’ leaders have agreed to pursue “further technical discussions on the filling ... and proceed to a comprehensive agreement.”
