how the Eritrean POW WAS TREATED BY THE eTHIOPIAN AFTER WAR

Post by sebdoyeley » 02 Mar 2020, 16:43

However, 800 captured Eritrean Ascari, regarded as traitors by the Ethiopians, had their right hands and left feet amputated.[51][52] Augustus Wylde records when he visited the battlefield months after the battle, the pile of severed hands and feet was still visible, "a rotting heap of ghastly remnants."[53] Further, many Ascari had not survived their punishment, Wylde writing how the neighborhood of Adwa "was full of their freshly dead bodies; they had generally crawled to the banks of the streams to quench their thirst, where many of them lingered unattended and exposed to the elements until death put an end to their sufferings."[54] There does not appear to be any foundation for reports that some Italians were castrated and these may reflect confusion with the atrocious treatment of the Ascari prisoners.[5

Sebdoyay , Ats Twedros when he came to punish the Shewains he cut the hands of vanqushed shewa Amharas. So it was not exclusively done to Eritreans which are considered Ethiopians then: In Miniliks eye Ethiopian fighting on the side of Italian was an unforgivable betrayal, after all there were more than 4000 Eritrean who came across to Ethiopia side and fought Italian along with their brothers. I am not justifying or condoning what had been done to Askaris at the time but all things need to be seen within historical context it took place.
