After listening to the interview with the one student that escaped the abduction, it looks like OLF is behind this shameful act. She said that the abductors clearly stated what they wanted: a demonstration in Amhara region to force the government to negotiate with the abductors. The abductors said, they have no beef with the students and from her description, they didn't tried to harm or abuse them. They also said that they have their own demands and wanted the government to negotiate with them after the demonstration in Amhara region put pressure on the government.
It seems they are using the innocent students as a human shield and as a bargaining chip to negotiate with the government. This desperate act also shows that they are being destroyed on the military front and are now resorting to a last desperate act. This could be also the reason why the government is in a very precarious position. On the one hand the public is demanding to wipe out OLF terrorists and to enforce rule of law, especially before the election date, and on the other hand there is now huge pressure from the public to get the release of the girls as soon as possible.
It could also be that in the first round of negotiations, the government may have agreed to some demands of the terrorists and in its desperate attempt to get good news out for the public, the government rushed to the media and said that 21 students were freed hopping terrorists would release them as agreed. It seems though the OLF terrorists may have added more demands, demands may be impossible for the government to accept. Now the government is between a rock and hard place. This could also end up bloody if the negotiations break down and the government decides to resolve it by force. I pray for the lives of these innocent students. May God save them from anything bad happening to them. It seems OLF didn't learn a thing from its past terrorist activities. What shameful animals.

Whoever takes students as hostages for bargaining chip can not represent anyone. Certainly not the Oromos. These bunch of criminals are probably working in tandem with tplf. The whole scope of the kidnap seems to be creating hatred between Amharas and the Oromos. Someone wants the federal government to fall and that someone can not be other than the merchant of terror tplf.
