በ19ኛዉ ምዕተ ዓመት በሁለተኛዉ አጋማሽ የነበሩት ነገሥታት አጼ ዮሐንስና አጼ ምኒልክ የአገሪቱን ሙስሊሞች በግድ ክርስቲያን ለማድረግ በወሰዱት ገደብ የለሽ የሃይል እርምጃ በህዝቡ ላይ ከፍተኛ የሞትና የስደት መከራ እንዳደረሱበት የማይታበል ሐቅ ነዉ። በዚህ አጋጣሚ ሣይታወስ የማይታለፈዉ የ1878ቱ የቦሩ ሜዳ ጉባዔ ነዉ። በዚህ ጉባዔ አጼ ዮሐንስና ንጉስ ሚኒልክ የኢትዮጵያን ሙስሊሞችና አዋማዊ (Pagan) ህዝቦች በግድ ክርስቲያን ለማድረግ ብርቱ መንግሥታዊ እርምጃ ወስደዋል። በፀሐፌ ትዕዛዝ ገብረ ሥላሴ የተመዘገበዉን ከቦሩ ሜዳ ጉባዔ በኋላ በወሎ ክፍለ ሀገር የተፈፀመዉን ክስተት ዶ/ር ላጲሶ እንደሚከተለዉ ገልፀዉታል።
ሁለቱ ነገሥታት እስላሙን ሰብስበዉ እንዲህ አሉ። እግዚአብሔር በቸርነቱ ሁለታችንን በፍቅር አንድ አደረገን ሐዋርያ እኛ ነን። ቀድሞ በግራኝ ጊዜ በጭንቅ ሀይማኖት ጠፋ እንጂ የክርስቲያን አገር መሆኑን ታዉቀዋለህ። አሁንም እስላምም አይሆንም በክርስቶስ ስም እመን፤ ተጠመቅ። ክርስቲያን ሆነህ ምግባር ብትሠራ ይህን ዓለም ትገዛለህ። በኋላም መንግሥተ ሰማያት ትወርሳለህ ብለዉ አዋጅ ነገሩ። ስለዚህ ጉባዔ በሌላ የዘመኑ የታሪክ ፀሐፍት በአለቃ አጥሜ ጊዮርጊስ በዝርዝር የተመዘገበዉ እንዲህ ይነበባል። በ1878 በወሎ ሙሐመድ አሊን አጼ ዮሐንስ አባት ሆነዉ አስጠምቀዉ ራስ ሚካኤል አሰኙአቸዉ። ከዚህ ወድያ ህዝቡን በግድ ያጠምቁትና ያቆርቡት ጀመሩ። ጉልበት ያለዉና በሃይማኖቱ የቆመ ወደመተማ ከደርቡሽ (Mahadist) ጋር ሊሆን ሄደ። እኩሉ ወደ ቀቤናና ወደ ጅማ ወደ ሐረርጌም ተሰደደ። የሄዱበት ሁሉ የሽፍታ አገር ሆነ። የሀበሻ አዉራጃዎች ሁሉ የጦርነት ስፍራዎች ሆኑ። ጅረቱ ሁሉ የሰዉ ደም ሆነ። ንጉሥ ምኒልክ ወደ አጼ ዮሐንስ ቀርበዉ ጃንሆይ እግዚአብሔር ይወድልናልን በግድ ቁረብ እያልን ህዝባችንን ብንፈጀዉ? ብለዉ ጠየቁ። ጃንሆይም ሲመልሱ የኢትዮጵያን ደም እበቀልላታለሁ። ግራኝ ኢትዮጵያን ሲያሰልማት በግድ በእሳትና በሰይፍ ነዉ። እኛስ የማርቆስን ሃይማኖት ካላቀናነዉ ካልመሠረትነዉ ማን ያቀናዋል አሉ። ከዚያ በኋላ አጼ ዮሐንስ ወሎ ላይ ከረሙ። ሲያቆርቡ ያልቆረበዉን ሲፈጁ ቦሩ ሜዳ ቤተክርስቲያን እያሠሩ። ራስ አዳልም ቅባቶች የሚባሉትን ሊያጠፉና እስላሙን ሊያቆርቡ ወደ ጎጃም ተሻገሩ። ንጉሥ ምኒልክ ወደ አንኮበር ገቡ። የጋፋትንም የአርጎባንም ኢስላም በግድ ሲያጠምቁና ሲያቆርቡ ከረሙ።
ይህ አስከፊና ዘግናኝ የታሪክ አሻራ የሚያሳየን የኢትዮጵያ ክርስቲያን ነገሥታት በአገሪቱ ሙስሊሞች ላይ የሃይማኖትና የባህል ጭቆናን ፖሊሲ ነዉ። በተለይ በአጼ ዮሐንስ ዘመን ይህ እኩይ ተግባር ጣሪያ የደረሰበት ጊዜ ነበር። አጼዉ ይከተለዉ የነበረዉና በተግባር ላይ ያዋለዉ የሃይማኖት ፖሊሲ አሃዳዊ ሃይማኖተኝነት ነበር። የኢትዮጵያን ክርስቲያናዊነት ለማለምለም ሁሉንም ሰዉ በአፈናና በግድ ክርስትናን እንዲቀበል ሞክሯል፤ እምቢ ባሉት ላይ ዘግናኝ የሃይል እርምጃና ጭፍጨፋ አከናዉኗል።
