Menelik defended Ethiopia from Italian Colonisation. How did he commit treachary
The fact that Eritrea was colonised . The Italians captured much of the northern part of Eritrea from 1870 till 1880. Menelik back then was the King of shewa. Not even the Emperor of Abyssinia . your grandfather Yohannes it was his job to stop the Italian colonisation of Eritrea . As a tigrayan it was his job to do that. Its not menelik fault to safe what was left of Ethiopia .
Menelik stockpiled all the arms he could get from russia. established good ties with Russia and manupilated the Brits against the French and got concessions from all of them thats hard ball geopolitical diplomacy at its finest.
And when the Italians challenged him in adwa he defeated them out in the open. Your grandfather Yohannes was fighting wars on behalf of the Brits agaisnt the mahdists of sudan also freedom fighters , his objectives should have been to keep Midra bahri free from italian rule. Bahta hagos of from akele guzay did a better job then so called Emperor of Ethiopia Yohannes. Bahta fought like a man to keep the italians at bay though defeated but atleast he tried indeed .And history shall indeed remember his courage indeed.

Under Yohanes the Eritreans were resisting his rule
Ras Solomon of Hamasien rebelled and became Allie's with Egypt in hopes of pushing Yohanes out of Kebessa (Medri Bahri)
If Menelik was to invade Asmara the Eritreans would once again resist his rule especially the Tigreyit people who are culturally Sudanese/Arab
Even if Menelik captured Eritrea they would still rebel especially under DERG time and declare independence and would have access to Egyptian arms from Sudan and the Red Sea and we would be back to square 1.
How can fano support Eritrea/ Somalia if fano is not even supported by them nor by Egypt?
Its like saying Al Shabab / RSF is supported by fano

Absolutely agree if Yohannes couldnt organise and unite his kin on both sides of the mereb to defend the land from Italy and other adveseries. Why on earth do you think Menelik would could or should .

Absolutly
They would hate Menelik just like they hate Haile selassie and Mengistu they would insult him as a foreigner just another southerner imperial from Shewa. They would not embrace Shewan rule if they already declined to embrace Tigrayan rule.
