A Window Into The Past, Our Boy Was Disappointing, though
He was young and as such could be forgiven, but he left unforgettable impression on the minds of all of his listeners. He should have written a book and apologized for his out of step statement. Mesfin, if you are still alive, I was embarrassed of you.

I think we suffered under identity crisis, let's face it.
Why did it come to that?

Why you're dueling on view that were expressed 65 years ago. I beat had you been where he had been at the time, we are talking a feudal Ethiopia, you view wouldn't have differ that much. The Nigerian had been exposed to different reality and very much understood the colonialism its racist underpinnings. The 1970's Ethiopian student movement although it had become self destructive, it aspirations were to raise Ethiopian consciousness to higher level and chart a new course. However the hodgepodge of discordant political discourse and different political interest undisciplined leadership lead to a disaster we are now trying to rectify. God help us.
Re: A Window Into The Past, Our Boy Was Disappointing, though
My question to you is, do you call yourself a Negro? What do you call your self?
In my understanding, the derogative word Negro used by White slave owner was associated with the Niger river of West Africa. If you are from East Africa, you are familiar and tend to talk more about Ghion/Abay/ river and the civilizations along it. That historical unfortunate of slavery had gone although its scar and deep is living behind. First of all the White lady hosting these kids to debate looked like a divide and rule setup. You should have asked why even the lady hosted these kids in stead of question them.

Somebody can host something for any reason, your share, if you are a participant, is to use the opportunity for your own cause and make your own case. You can't avoid to appreciate the level of understanding, intellectual understanding and an articulate Nigerian boy in the discussion. Very much impressive, specially taking his age at the time into consideration. Our own Mesfin was a disappointment, face the truth.Abere wrote: ↑20 Nov 2021, 14:50My question to you is, do you call yourself a Negro? What do you call your self?

He didn't say he is not a West African, he simply said, we are not African, be it Ghion or call it something else. He called himself a descendant of Jew (a lost tribe, in his own words). The kid was not to blame, but the adults who thaugh him such a crap.
In the second video, another boy tried to avoid the same mistake Mesfin made/committed.
You as a third boy now still following the path of Mesfin, grow up boy!
Well, it wouldn't be that bad, if you were not a grown-up and came into the scene in the information era.
Re: A Window Into The Past, Our Boy Was Disappointing, though
You still did not answer my question. Do you call yourself Negro?
The derogatory word Negro does not represent Africa. It is a term used by White men who kidnapped Africans from areas of the Niger river. The fact that boy said he was neither White nor Negro is correct. For him answering personally his own origin is nothing wrong, he could have a Jewish origin. Africa is like America with diverse origin, yet still millions call themselves American. Africa is a rich and diverse continent. Ethiopia has such a special place in Africa as it is a gateway to the continent.

We are the root, and the root is Africa, the land of Origin, "we are all Ethiopians, the home of [deleted] Sapiens", even the Chair-Woman of the Nobel Peace Prize, Mrs. Reiss-Andersen, didn't miss in her opening speech of the Award-Ceremony of the year 2019, how come you miss it?
Ethiopia is not a Gateway (Gateway to where/what), Ethiopia is the land of Origin.
The land of Origin can't afford to distance itself from any part of the descendants (wider) of Origin.

Re: A Window Into The Past, Our Boy Was Disappointing, though
Gateway means a passage into or out of a place. This is the dictionary meaning. This does not lessen the value Ethiopia being not only a Biblical country where the river of Ghion is found as well as its pre-historic of anthropological/archeological place for being the cradle of mankind. The history of mankind is interwoven by give and take, or cultural diffusion through trade, migration, invasion, etc.
