There is no strategic advantage of haile Selassie dying in the hands of Italy, that would have further legitimatized their rule and his decision to flee and gather help was right. That being said, he made a big mistake by hanging belay zeleke and ignoring wollo famine. Shewan made a mistake by giving gallas power in order to fight other amhara provinces. Menelik should have done what tewodros did and exterminate invading gallas instead of assimilating them. Infighting has made it so amhara identity could never solidify but that is changing now.

Because that is what colonial powers do. Overthrow the leader and install a puppet. Mengistu is no friend of amhara in fact the opposite.
His equality rhetoric was just an excuse to put galla communists in power. Because of him we lost eritrea and [ deleted ] tigres ruled us for 27 years! Anyways talking about the past does not help our future cause. The amhara identity must be solidified, specially with the youth. No more gojam, shewa, wollo, gonder, agew, raya, kimant. Only one amhara. Once united we can get back our stolen lands and put an end to agame and galla treachery.
