There isn't a Gurage group that fights the tyranny of Abiy Ahmed's dictatorship. If anything, PP, Clown Abiy Ahmed's party overwhelmingly is the dominant power in Gurage. It has no real challengers. Recently established registered legal Gurage national political party, Gogot, has been physically beaten, its computers and vehicles damaged, its offices ransacked in Welkite during the recent elections. As they must, they reported this election interference to NEBE, which denied there existed any illegal actvity against Gogot.
Gurage has not fought war on its soil since 1889. Despite the peacefulness and usefulness of Gurage to Ethiopia rather than itself, Ethiopia governs Gurage under the Martial Law directives. There are 6 EDF posts, also known as Commandos, in Gurage. The most dense per square kilometer in Ethiopia. Amara, Oromo, Somali, Sidama, do not have so many command posts per km2 eventhough they maintain gorilla groups. These command posts are the much dread gestapos known in Ethiopia as "Mekelakia". A federal army whose chartered establishment is to protect the country against foreign aggression is being used against civilians in Gurage.
In Gurage, rarely political protests take place. But Meles Zenawi established a military barrack in the minority Qebena wereda in 2000s which was not wereda up to that time. It is Meles who created the Qebena Wereda which did not exist before, by taking 17 villages from Gurage and adding them to the 6 Qebena villages. It was Meles Zenawi's racist collective punishment to get at Berhanu Nega for his political challeges to TPLF's misrule.
After Abiy Ahmed came to power in 2018, he established 5 more command posts only because the Gurage Zone parliamentarians voted in majority for Gurage to seek a federal region of its own.
Marial Law is a rule by an Emergency Decree. The military is given the unquestioned power to use force to shoot to kill for any reason they deem necessary; and they won't be charged.
The list of ordinary Gurages killed or maimed, ranging from simple traders, drivers, farmers, shopkeepers, children and youth is staggering. Records are not properly kept either.
Kerta Global for which Whorus is the Chair and International Gurage Association do not document them as news neither feature them as special podcasts. They do not talk to the families of the victims. They do not ask police, the Gurage Zone officials or the Region's head.
These two organizations' international membership is by vetting or recommendation. Membership is not open to the public. If you do not know someone among them, your interest in Gurage affairs does not qualify you to be a member. Some member of theirs has to recommend you that you have what they require ideoligically.
