The Journey: From Amapia of Mengistu Ayàna, through Amarpia of Meles Gobena, Confepia of Daud Ibsa, & Orompia of Léncô Latà, to Oropia of Haile Fida

Regarding the spectrum of Oromo politics, Amapia (the Amharic-dominated geo-federation) of President Mengistu Ayàna is already dead, and Amarpia (the Amharic-dominated ethnic federation) of Prime Minister Meles Gobena is on its deathbed. The future direction of Oromo politics appears to be moving toward Confepia (the English-using confederation) of Daud Ibsa, Orompia (the Oromic-led ethnic federation) of Léncô Latà, or Oropia (the Oromic-led geo-federation) of Haile Fida.

In general, the Oromo liberation journey, which began in the 1960s, has passed through five major phases:

1. The Dark Phase under the Amhara Monarchy:
During this period, only the pro-Amharic elites held absolute power, and the Oromo people were reduced to near invisibility. Oromic was completely banned from official use.

2. The First Step Forward – The 1974 Revolution:
With the overthrow of the monarchy, we made one step forward. Oromic was officially recognized, albeit with limited use in radio broadcasts and newspapers.

3. The Second Revolution – Victory in 1991:
After defeating the Derg military regime, we advanced two steps forward. Oromic became the formal working language in Oromia.

4. The Third Revolution – Post-2018 Developments:
Following the 2018 revolution, we made further progress by freeing ourselves from Tigrayan hegemonists. Oromic is now relatively free to grow and develop, including the establishment of PhD programs in the language.

5. The Future – Towards True Liberation:
In the upcoming fifth phase, we are determined to rid ourselves of the current Hybrid’s dictatorship led by Abiy Ahmed. Our goal is to elevate Oromic as the primary leading language of either Orompia (Oromic-led ethnic federation) or Oropia (Oromic-led geofederation). The promotion of Oromic, alongside democratization, signifies the gradual transformation of Ethiopia into Orompia or Oropia—a process that reflects a natural evolution of Moggàsa.
