News: #Sudan prepares for Eastern front as RSF camp in #Ethiopia receives supplies from Berbera and Mombasa, government sources say — Al Jazeera Arabic reports
Sudan is reportedly preparing to open a new military front in its east after Ethiopia allegedly allowed the Rapid Support Forces (#RSF) and foreign fighters to establish a training camp near the Blue Nile border, Al Jazeera Arabic reported, citing senior Sudanese government sources.
According to the report, Ethiopian authorities are coordinating with the RSF through regional supporters, facilitating supply lines, the construction of training facilities, and the preparation of airstrips. Government sources told Al Jazeera Arabic that combat vehicles, artillery systems, and electronic jamming devices are already being transported through #Assosa in Ethiopia’s #Benishangul-Gumuz region, which borders Sudan’s Blue Nile region and hosts the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
Al Jazeera Arabic also reported that intelligence coordination exists between the Ethiopian army, the RSF, and the People’s Army—the armed wing of the SPLM-North faction led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu—with forces under Joseph Tuka deployed across the Blue Nile region and along South Sudan’s Upper Nile border.
The RSF training camp in Ethiopia, located in Menqi and Al-Ahmar areas of Ondlo locality, is said to host more than 10,000 fighters under the supervision of Ethiopian General, in coordination with foreign officers. Foreign recruits include mercenaries from South Sudan and Latin American countries, notably Colombia, the report added.
Logistical supplies for the camp reportedly arrive via #Berbera Port in #Somaliland and #Kenya’s #Mombasa Port before being transported into Ethiopia, Al Jazeera Arabic said. Drones supplied to the RSF have already been used in recent strikes targeting Damazin, the Blue Nile regional capital, and Kurmuk near the Ethiopian border.
Experts speaking to Al Jazeera Arabic warned that the establishment of an RSF training camp inside Ethiopia marks a dangerous escalation in the Sudanese conflict, with the potential to trigger a bloodier phase in the Horn of Africa if not addressed through decisive regional and international action.
Political analyst Youssef Abdel Manan told Al Jazeera Arabic that the RSF has historically received military and logistical support through eastern Libya, Central Africa, Chad, South Sudan, and now Ethiopia.
