There are 16 landlocked countries in Africa

Post by Dama » 17 Nov 2025, 22:49

Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Central African Republic, Chad, Ethiopia, Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), Lesotho, Malawi, Mali, Niger, Rwanda, South Sudan, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. These countries have no direct access to the sea and depend on neighboring countries for access to ports for trade.

If Ethiopia's movement for access to the sea gains momentum, AU may revise its contstitution to allow boundary changes for African states. States boundaries as colonialists left them could be voted down.

Yuweri Museveni of Uganda has said that Uganda will no longer be landlocked. That access to the seas and oceans should be every African's right.
