"This isn't really about economics or maritime laws, it's about internal politics..... and this obsession with the Red Sea isn't genuine, it's a distraction, papering over the cracks of the state that is fracturing from within.... A desperate distraction from an internal collapse."

"...Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's administration is essentially standing on the ruins of a state fractured along ethnic, regional and ideological lines. The center cannot hold because they just haven't done the work of building internal unity...... and all this Red Sea talk isn't really directed outward at Eritrea, it is inward at the Ethiopian people as a tactic, a way to rally support, or more likely to distract a very restless population..... it's essentially a political theater designed to hide a failing state.... Re: (◣ ETN News24 ◢) Ethiopia’s Red Sea Mirage | When Arrogance Meets a Multipolar Reality
Eritrea's strategic situation has changed dramatically.... Eritrea is now part of a growing network of non-aligned countries-- countries stretching from Asia, the Middle East, right across Africa...etc... and what unites these partners is the core principle of respect for sovereignty, non-interference, self determination, .... and that changes the dynamics significantly... HUGELY, because it means, any aggressive move towards Eritrea now isn't just seen as a local dispute between two countries, it is viewed as challenging the principle that's gaining real traction, especially in the global south, that fundamentally raises the risk for fragmented Ethiopia if they push things too far.
