Yet another idiom (መማክሳ) of Afan Oromo

Post by DefendTheTruth » 07 Oct 2025, 08:26

ወራቤስ ዋን ሀልካን ጎዼ ዋን ቤኩፍ፣ ጉያ ነመ ዼንሳ (hyena tries to run away from humans during the day knowing well what it did to them during the dark/night).

It is clear, I think. But what many of us don't understand well is why the entity dubbed Eritrea claimed to have been preoccupied ever since its self-acclaimed "independence" by insecurity so that focusing on any of its own internal affairs has been literally impossible for her.

Many have reported the thug in power in the tiny land of the HoA has been caught up in a permanent fear of being invaded by the same country it once claimed to have successfully liberated itself from. No development plans, no democratization efforts, no constitution (means under constant state of emergency in the land), no free press, no civilian lives without the forced conscription to the army indefinitely.

The ruling clique there is left with constant fear of a war breaking out between their tiny country and the giant of the Horn, they spend only sleepless nights, according to the many mouth pieces of the same in here themselves.

In all of this Ethiopia has never declared an intention of invading Eritrea ever since the latter claimed to have been independent from the mother land. Which means the fear is self-induced, for whatever reason, the same way a hyena may try to run away from humans during the day light. It robbed and feasted on the possessions of the humans, which gets the humans angry at it and drives them to kill the prey-animal.

Eritrea robbed Ethiopia during the relatively dark years of its recent history, Ethiopia was not in a position to defend herself and her interests adequately during the military junta's rule in the country. The conditions were not ripe for self-defense in Ethiopia, Eritrea used the opportunity to feast on the possessions of the country, especially the substantial investment she poured on to develop her sea access and securing it. Eritrea is well aware of the implication and has to fear ever since!

I have already highlighted in the last few days 3 specifically relevant idioms from Afan Oromo and invited you to watch the film as it unfolds in the new Ethiopian new year with this regard!
