Orbital forcing and hurricane events: Could there be an association?

Post by Messele Zewdie Ejeta » 19 Aug 2025, 10:59

News reports that Hurricane Erin intensified at a historic rate in the Atlantic Ocean.

It makes you wonder if its rapid intensification is due to climate crisis or orbital forcing.

I know of no research so far that associates orbital forcing with hurricane events.

However, I think that it could be quickly studied using this hurricane event and other recorded major hurricane events by checking if they are in phase or out of phase with orbital forcing using moon phases as a proxy.

If I had the resources at this time, I could possibly get a research paper out of it fairly quickly.

The following two peer reviewed journal papers may be helpful to those with the resources and interested to do this useful study.
