When the wars end, the revenues from the south rehabs the war-broken north.
In the end, the most developed parts of Ethiopia are not the peaceful south but the violent north.
This can support the south to make a political case for independence from Ethiopia.

Historically, the South ravaged the most from exodus and war coming from the South and South East. The Oromo migration of the 16th century changed the ethnography and culture of the South. A dozen of ethnic groups about 22 or more disappeared for ever without a trace. You may refer Aba-Bahari book on this - the only available record and the brutality of the invasion.
Likewise, the Gragn Amhed, (fallen evil) destroyed first the South. Many areas in Gurage, Hadiya, etc were the victim of this fallen giant.
