Many of us mentioned that due process of parliament and public consultations were ignored. Eviction notices were short and compensations for right-of-way lands and demolished houses and shops were non-existent. Some 60 heads of displaced families and families who were notified of seizures of their properties committed suicides. The deadly social cost on Addis residents have been enormous but could have been avoided.

Cost-benefit analysis, which should have taken more than a couple of year for a scale as large as Addis was not carried out. Return on investment is essential for governments that is legally entrusted or took upon itself that responsibility by dictatorship to avoid/prevent waste of public funds. Satisfying itself with the benefits outweighing the costs, the City gov presents its plan to City Council to allow such huge expenditure. Of course, dictator Abiy, PM of Ethiopia also acts Mayor of Addis. He is the City Council and parliament of Ethiopia. What he decides is presumably the decision of the Addis City Council or parliaments of Ethiopia.

Priorities are other factors for consideration such as reducing housing shortages, adequate supply treated water to improve health and widespread supply of electricity for households, hospitals, industries, schools, street lightings, etc.

1. Does Ethiopia have the skilled manpower to carry out such large scale, widespread renewal constructions? Imported skilled manpower is extremely expensive for a poor African country like Ethiopia.
2. Does Ethiopia produce locally the materials need for the renewal of the city? The steels, the aluminum, the plastic, the glasses imported are hugely expensive and impoverishes the country more.

Your obsession with these insignificant Gurages supporting Abiya while he rides Ethiopia on the backs of Anmara support is disturbing to say the least, especially with age old Amara prejudicial labelling of Gurages as thieves. You seem to me the new hailu Shawel who called Birhanu Nega 'ketafi". Amara never fails to recycle its prejudices when necessary, I would think.
