Aversion to War in Gurage

Post by Dama » 17 Jul 2024, 11:22

It would be interesting to trace the origin and cause of Gurage pacifism. It has become a ridiculous phenomenon.

It is a late phenomena! My father used to tell me war stories with hadya as well as ጋና! He used to list a lot of heros! How some one injured in war would heal by eating good like a big bowel of kitfo or ship/calf whole. All the pacifism prevaile after unionization of the nation and centralized force securing conflicts within and from outside the country. People learned enjoying peaceful life and what travel as well as city life provides. This is not typical of gurage but many small tribes in central south ethiopia. People don’t have access to significant amount of war toys unlike those ethnics located close to borders. That is why this region is up for grab by sny one that assumes power in 4kilo. Except gibe በረሃ no space like ደደቢት አሲምባ in gurage to hide the disgruntled. Gurage should learn how to self defence or else already going down the drain. It is already pocketed by ሺመልስ ከብቲሳ!

There is a Gibe river crossing called Gana Yotawa in Gasore, a settlement along the Giber river opposite side of Welkite, where the invading Gallas were repulsed. On their retreat, they crossed the Gibe River in Gasore. That crossing point is memorialized as Gana Yotawe.

Unionization? Are you kidding me?

Gojjam fought Menelick. Gojjam and Borana rebelled against Haile Sellasie and were bombed.
Menelick fought Tewodros. Menelick refused to recognize Yohnis as his king.
Yohanis fought Tewodros.
Not because they did not peace. They fought oppressions.

Best battle grounds are not forbidding deserts and tiring mountains to climb nor are they caves with their secret corners to hide.
Historically, battles are fought everywhere: hills and mountains, river valleys, grass lands and forests.

During the eras of hand-to-hand combats flat grounds were perhaps preferred for stability. For Cannons and guns, hilltops may have been advantageous to fire them down hills as the gravitational acceleration increased their travel distance and destructive powers of their bullets and metal balls.
Modern warfare is all about outsmarting the enemy. Good distance from the enemy. Know what equipment the enemy has. What the plans of of the enemy are and dates of execution. Ambushes. Night or day raids most of the time by high numbers to overwhelm the enemy.
Gurage has many forets, river valleys, numerous lakes, many mountains and virgin vast plane grasslands called Hebirs.

Where there is a need and will, there is a way. Weapons in Ethiopia are at your door steps. The thing is do you want them?
You can buy weapons from Sudan or Djibuti or Kenyan borders without stepping out of Gurage. Plenty of underground gun smugglers/dealers with their pickup trucks and trailer trucks. Police checks are far and in between. Also, easy to bribe Ethiopian security because their salaries are very low.

Yeap!! Gurage is sliced off and scrambled by Hadiya and Oromo. Hadiya annexed Mesmes, are now disappearing. Oromo annexed Zway and Chebo Gurages.

Gurage also began disintegrating by self-implosion. Silte broke away. Kebena and Mareqo are massacring innocent Gurages, burning homes and shops, dispossessing Gurage owned homes in Welkite, looting cattle and shops, terrorizing Gurage farmers and Welkite residents by gun fires and knocking on their doors to leave at nights. Yemo wants Qose in Innor. Oromo has already annexed 10 villages in Sodo. For Pagan Horus, it's temporary.
