Agreed. Spelling errors or word choices are minor issues. I also made mistake. I meant to write distaste.
It's a combination of the Ethiopian government its tentacles of Amara political, cultural and media organization. 95% Gurage social contacts are with Amaras. 5% with Oromos. None whatsoever with Eritreans and Tigrawis, etc.

The saddest part is leaving their Gurages in limbos: not accepted into Amara political parties, not allowed to fight their wars, example, no Gurages in Fano, there were no Gurages in EDU, etc. Gurages are discouraged not to form ethnic political group because they teach them it's against Ethiopia, it's to be like TPLF. ZThey tell them it's zerenginet. Even to listen to Gurage music is discouraged as zerenginet. Labeled zerenga when they listen to Gurage music.

Massive Pro-Ethiopia miseducation of Gurage as if Ethiopia will collapse if Gurage has its nationalist movement, of all Ethiopian nations. As if Ethiopia will collapse if the Gurage language is written and children learn it in schools. They teach them to choose Amharic. One excuse is Gurage travels a lot; therefore needs Amharic only.

This miseducation of Gurages about themselves and Ethiopia has been going over many decades. Perhaps since the 1950s. Over the years the miseducation built up a massive number of the Gurage society. They are the voice of Gurage now. Pro- Ethiopia equals Pro-Amara. No other Ethiopian is considered in the same eye as Amara. Even Gurage Muslims.

Majority thinks, minority individuals' voice falls under the deafening carpet of the majority. or they don't speak at all for fear of alienation, job loss, physical assault or even assassination.

They want Gurage without nationalist leadership, a Gurage that is disarmed and docile and speaks Amharic. In short, assimilated Gurage to Amra. Already Gurage is in language shift to Amharic. Most Gurages born and raised in Gurage are losing fluency in Gurage while fluent in Amharic, at a farm village level.
